After a 20-20 tie in the fourth, Grant Union moved ahead three points, and the teams tied again at 24-24, then 25-25. Imbler then made two kills for the win. “We knew it would be dif- ficult to beat them,” said Speth after the game. “They’re a strong team. It’s hard to beat a good team over and over.” The heartbroken team, and fans, recuperated from the loss to face their final opponent the following day, competing for third place. Mosley, at 6 feet tall, had 34 kills, 11 aces, 11 digs, eight solo blocks and nine block assists in the tournament. “Heather has become the dominant middle in the state this year, and she had a strong game against Culver,” Speth said. “Her serving has im- proved much this season.” Kodesh had 29 kills, five aces, was 92 percent on serving and had 60 digs, including 25 in the Culver match. “Chelsie anticipates, reads and covers the floor so well de- fensively,” the coach said. “She is going to be greatly missed, not just because of her contributions skill-wise, but because of her tremendous leadership every day in practice and games.” Junior Mariah Moulton was named to the All-State Tourna- ment first team. She had 33 kills in the tour- nament with nine aces and was 97 percent on serving and 100 percent on serve-receive with 36 digs and one block assist. Mosley and sophomore Hailie Wright were named to the second team. Hailie had 101 set assists in the tournament, as well as nine kills, two aces, 38 digs and nine block assists. She also served at 93 percent. “All eight players in our rotation executed well all sea- son,” Speth said. “They each know and accept their role on the team, and hold themselves accountable to their teammates to execute that role.” “Ultimately, our goal was to win a state championship, and we fell just short of that,” she said. “That is no way diminish- es what this team accomplished this season.
