Several local competitors took part in the
June 18 Grant County Stockgrowers Ranch
Rodeo, held at the Grant County Fairgrounds
in John Day.
Chad Finley of Mt. Vernon was the
high-dollar winner, taking home a belt buck-
le, donated by Source 1 Livestock Supply,
and the second high-dollar winner was Ryan
Kimball of Redmond.
Finley’s horse Mac won the Top Horse
headstall, which was donated by IZ Ranch.
This was the Stockgrowers Association’s
irst ranch rodeo, and they hope to make it an
annual event.
“I was impressed with the participants
that were there,” said Stockgrowers presi-
dent Alec Oliver. “It turned out really well.
We learned a lot and got positive feedback
for corrections to hopefully make next year
even better.”

Cinnabar Mountain Play-
days youth are at it again,
competing in rodeos this sum-
mer.
“We’re thrilled to have
started our rodeo series this
year,” said Cinnabar Moun-
tain Playdays board member
Laura Hopper. “We’re excited
for the rest of the events and
to see the kids keep continu-
ing to learn and have fun.”
The Cinnabar rodeos be-
gan June 11, with a double-
header held last Saturday.
All of this summer’s
events are held at the Grant
County Fairgrounds in John
Day, and admission is free for
spectators.
Youth through age 18
compete in barrel racing, pole
bending, goat tying, dummy
roping, keyhole racing, lag
racing and igure 8 racing
during each rodeo.
Saturday’s rodeo was a
Wrangler National Patriot
event with contestants and
spectators dressed in red,
white and blue clothing,
along with contestants’ horses
decked out for the occasion.
As part of the National Pa-
triot event, donation jars will
be set up in the community,
with proceeds supporting a
local veteran program.
The CMP’s next rodeo is
Riley Gregg competes in the Junior division in the flag
race during the June 11 Cinnabar Playdays Rodeo.
