    TION: 4-H horse members may enter open class.
J.
No wire curbs, regardless of how padded or
taped, or no chin strap narrower than one-half inch
will be permitted. Chain curbs are permissible, but
must meet the approval of the judge and must be at
least one-half inch in width, lying flat against the jaw
of the horse.
K.
No tiedowns or hackamore bits (mechanical
hackamore) will be allowed.
L.
A single animal may NOT be entered in both
Colt Training/Ground Work and Colt Training/First Year
Riding within a single year. 90% of the training work
must be done by the 4-H member.
M.
A member may enter only one animal per
class.
N.
Stallions older than one year and wet mares
may not be shown in 4-H classes.
O.
Horses will not be allowed on trail or jumping
course after it is set up. Riders may inspect course
on foot prior to the start of the class at management's
discretion.
P.
No horse will be allowed to compete if tranquil-
izers have been administered within 72 hours of
show.
Q.
A separate horse may be used for Gaming,
Driving, Dressage and Colt Training.

Trail Horse (English Or Western)
Contestants are scored on each obstacle and given a
total score for performance, smoothness of execu-
tion, poise, manners, use of hand and leg aids.
Participants are allowed only 3 attempts on any one
course obstacle and then must move on to the next.
Trail class obstacles are developed to mimic actual
trail situations and demonstrate the horse and rider's
skills. Trick or unreasonable obstacles will not be
used.

The use of rosin or any artificial substance to maintain
seat is definitely prohibited. Chaps are not allowed.
Riders using English attire will post the trot, unless
otherwise directed by the judge.

Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences
751 100 161* Junior 4-H Members. Hard hats with
chin straps and boots required. Hunt Seat tack and
attire or modifications of same accepted. Spurs and
crops are optional. Juniors do two (2) 18" jumps.
751 100 162 Intermediate 4-H Members. Riders to
be judged over a course of 6 to 8 fences maximum,
not to exceed 2.5 feet in height with one change of di-
rection.
751 100 163 Senior 4-H Members. Same as
Intermediate above.
Driving Class
Contestants may participate with a two- or four-wheel
cart. They will be judged on appearance of animal,
appearance of member (neat and clean), equipment
and performance. Running martingales are accept-
able for safety. Precision classes will drive over a
course of obstacles.

Ranch Horse Contest Rules
Grant County 4-H Ranch Horse Show & Gaming
Contest
The Ranch Horse program is open to any 4-H horse
member. This program has been designed to be a
fun event for youth. All general horse rules apply to
the Ranch Horse program, with the following special
rules:
A. All participants must be enrolled in the 4-H
Horse project AND must have attended AT LEAST
ONE Ranch Horse RIDING CLINIC in the current 4-H
year.
B. All general rules pertaining to ownership, etc. as
listed under livestock will be adhered to.
C. A signed release of liability must be signed by
parent/ guardian and 4-H member to participate in
Fair Ranch Horse Contest. These will be turned in to
the superintendent.
D. Ranch Horse contest guides and rules are avail-
able from the Grant County Extension office.
E. The Ranch Horse Contest is part of the Fair, but
is held at a different date and location.
F.
The contest consists of the following six class-
es: Ranch Horse Showmanship, Working Ranch
Horse, Ranch Horse Trail, Cow Working, Ranch Horse
Roping, Identification, knowledge, and skill tests.
G.
Members must use the SAME HORSE for all
classes.
H. All herd help must be ranch horse contestants.
