However, those jump, long jump and 300-me- ter hurdles; sophomore Jozie Rude, pole vault and shot put; and freshman Kaylee Wright, javelin. Besides those four, three others will advance to state, including sophomore Duane Stokes, triple jump; Saman- tha Brock, 100-meter hurdles; Kenzie Wilson, triple jump; Chelsie Kodesh, discus; and Sydney Brockway, long jump. Rude will also compete in javelin, and Wright will com- pete in the 100-meter dash. “Our girls are setting very good to make a run on state championship,” Smith said. “We also have two girls who will be in the running for (Moda) Athlete of the Meet — Jozie and Kori — both quali- fi ed in three events.” Qualifying athletes will compete at the Thursday-Sat- urday May 19-21 OSAA Track and Field State Championships at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene. GU golfers take swing at district championship Coach hopes to field two teams next year By Angel Carpenter Blue Mountain Eagle PENDLETON — The Grant Union golf team’s season came to a close at the Pendleton Country Club at the May 8-10 1A/2A/3A District Golf Champion- ship. The Prospectors compet- ed on the par 72 course with 12 other schools, including 51 boys and 44 girls. The Vale boys won the event with a two-day score of 756, followed by Hep- pner with 780, Burns 786 and Nixyaawii 796. Pettit qualifi ed in three events, includ- ing the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.67 (fi rst seed), 200 in 26.70 (fi rst seed) and long jump with a mark of 15-04.25 (eighth seed). She also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 32-02.50. Emerson reached a personal record and second place in the 100-meter hur- dles with a time of 18.33 (10th seed), and was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.31 (eighth seed). “We don’t have much time to prepare, and the weather isn’t cooperating either,” said Monument head coach Darrin Dailey. “We’re taking Monday off and expect to do some warm ups tomorrow to stay loose for the state competition. We will be reviewing the details of each athlete’s events and also going over what to expect at a state level competition for these fi rst timers. Prairie City Joe Weymouth, the head coach for Prairie City’s team, said he was pleased with the results from the district meet. “The meet went well as Garrett Hitz and Amaya Zweygardt both earned their way to the state track meet,” Weymouth said. Hitz had a fi rst-place fi nish in javelin Dayville Kristina Humphreys will compete at state after winning fi rst place in javelin with a mark of 120-09. She also placed fourth in discus. Gabe Walker earned a personal record in long jump, and Austin Walker had a personal record in both the discus and shot put. Long Creek Although there were no Long Creek athletes qualifying for state, Kirill Bor- isov had a good showing with fourth place in the 100-meter dash, the 200 and the 4x100, running with teammates Philipp Dessau, Aaron Yeung and Adam Rajabe- liev.
