Noah, Emma most popular baby names for second year
Blue Mountain Eagle
“Baby Names Day” has
arrived.
Whether you want to see
how your own name measures
up in popularity or are seeking a
name for a new little one on the
way, Social Security might be
able to help.
The agency has released
the most popular baby names
for 2015, unveiled a new baby
names quiz and shared trivia on
unusual and trending names.
For the second year in a row,
Emma and Noah are America’s
most popular baby names. This
marks the third year at number
one for Noah and the second for
Emma.
New names on the lists are
Benjamin and Harper, the fi rst
time for both.
The agency began compil-
ing the baby name list in 1997,
with names dating back to 1880.
Each year, the list reveals the
effect of pop culture on naming
trends.
This year’s winners for big-
gest jump in popularity in the
Top 1,000 are Alaia and Riaan.
Alaia jumped 2,012 spots on
the girls’ side to number 664,
from number 2,676 in 2014.
Speculation attributes the name
to either high fashion designer
Azzedine Alaia or Alaia Bald-
win, model/daughter of actor
Stephen Baldwin.
Riaan increased 1,360 spots
for the boys, from number 2,286
in 2014 to number 926. Of In-
dian origin, it is also the name
of the young son of a well-
known Bollywood actor, Riteish
Deshmukh.
The second fastest riser
for girls was Meilani. Fans of
MTV’s program “Jersey Shore”
should be familiar with Jenni
“JWoww” Farley, who in 2014,
gave birth to a daughter, Meilani.
Others might know of another
Meilani on a different American
shore, Hawaii — Bethany Mei-
lani Hamilton, the professional
surfer whose story of surviving a
shark attack was documented in
the movie “Soul Surfer.”
The second-fastest rising
name for boys was Huxley, per-

Dec. 20, 1938 - April 15, 2016
Devona I. Jones died at the age of 77, at her John Day home. Services will be private.
Devona Jones was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Superior, Wisc. to Edward Dahlberg and
Theresa Sajec.
Devona worked in the health care industry for 65 years. Her last place of employment
was Specific Specialties, where she retired. She enjoyed working there the most. She was also
very adamant about teaching her children the importance of scruples, values, respect and
integrity. Devona, who reared her children, said “you rear children, you raise cattle.” She made
sure each of her children knew Jesus Christ, and that each child was christened. This was most
important to her. She had four sons to look after her two daughters. Unfortunately two of her sons h ave passed:
Robert Baty, at age 19 and Ludwig A. Bly, at age 33. Devona is now with her two Sons. Amen. The love of her life,
Carl McLaughlin, who she missed whole heartedly, passed a year ago Christmas. They were going on 30 years
together. Carl and Devona were inseparable. I pray Carl met Devona at Heaven’s gate.
Devona had many hobbies including picking fresh fruits and flowers, making dolls and swans, swimming
laps, playing her guitar with her friends at weekend picnics, writing songs, watching Family Feud an d The Golden
Girls. She was very fond of comedy TV.
Devona, who her family and friends called Dede, was a humble woman. She always put others before her self
and treated people with respect. She gave great advice and always told us to use our common sense. H er words were
“stay focused,” “talk to your maker,” and “when in doubt, move a pawn.” She was never one to judge o thers. She told
her children it wasn’t their place and we have but only one judge, his name is Holy.
Devona is survived by her sons, Carl E. Baty, Portland, and Michael Bly, Mt Vernon; daughters, Devon a M.
Bly, Bickelton Wash., and Vickie L. Bly and special friend, Michael Goodwin, Mt. Vernon; brother, Lu dwig J
Dahlberg, John Day; grandchildren Brandon C. Dedmore, Devona F. Kandoll, Nakai L Kibby, Star M. Kibb y and
Amber D. York; two nieces, Tina and Brenda Jones.
Dede had so many great friends. Her true friends always said Dede was one in a million, a can do typ e of
lady, a loving mother and grandmother. She made sure we knew to call on the Lord and to keep focused . She always
said this to her children and her true friends- you know who you are.
late science fi ction writer Ald-
ous Huxley.
Here are a few other notable
names in the top 10 biggest in-
crease category, and some pos-
sible reasons for their newfound
popularity:
• Omari and Jabari for boys.
Omari Hardwick is an actor,
known for his roles in “Spar-
kle,” “The A-Team” and BET
Network’s “Being Mary Jane,”
who currently stars in the popu-
lar cable TV series “Power.” Ja-
bari Parker is a professional bas-
ketball player for the Milwaukee
Bucks and was the second over-
all pick in the 2014 NBA draft
out of Duke.
• Adaline and Zelda for girls.
“The Age of Adaline” is a 2015
fantasy fi lm starring Blake Live-
ly, Harrison Ford, Michiel Hu-
isman and Ellen Burstyn. And
as for Zelda, maybe the legend
continues to grow?
