ative Collaboration” will be offered to help Eastern and Central

Dave Turin and Andy Spinks from the TV show “Gold
Rush” will share their life experiences and involvement with
the show. Program crew members may also be present. Those

Spring potluck in Dayville
• 6:30 p.m., Dayville Community Hall
Bring a dish to share for the meal and an entry for the “veggie
contest.” Entries must have a vegetable as the main ingredient.
Table service will be provided. There will be a silent auction of
reusable shopping bags fi lled with prizes and goodies. Plants,
tree seedlings and seeds will be for sale by donation. Proceeds
benefi t the Dayville Community Hall renovation efforts. Call

Candidate Forum

Sixth annual Evening of Entertainment
• 6:30 p.m., Prairie City Senior Center, 204 N. McHaley St.
Talented performers include ensemble singing, show tunes,
comedy, dueling pianos, violins and more. Finger foods and des-
serts will be served at 6:30 p.m.; the show starts at 7 p.m. Admis-
sion is $6 a person or $15 for a family of three or more. Spon-
sored by Talents and Treasures Scholarship Fund and the Prairie
City Senior Center. Proceeds benefi t the scholarship fund and

Weather spotter training

Volunteers are sought for the latest free, two-hour Skywarn
Weather Spotter training. Weather spotters assist meteorologists
by providing up-to-date information about storm activity. There
will be door prizes. Preregister at weather.gov/Pendleton; bring
information about latitude, longitude and elevation so locations

16th annual Rita Monahan
Wellness Event is coming up
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Satur-
day, May 7, at Dorion Park,
at Sixth Street and H Avenue
in La Grande.
Activities include a 5K
walk/run,
health-related
booths, live music, raffl es,
health screenings and fi tness
demonstrations.
The free event is orga-
nized by Oregon Health &
Science University’s School
of Nursing in La Grande and
Eastern Oregon University’s
Wellness Program.
Rita Monahan was a for-
mer associate professor at
OHSU who died of colon
cancer in 1999 and request-
ed, instead of a memorial
service, money be donated
to a scholarship fund to as-
sist graduating students with
paying for their RN licen-
sure examination. Her hus-
band, Greg Monahan, EOU
professor emeritus of histo-
ry, is matching up to $1,500
in donations made to the
Rita Monahan Scholarship
this year.
Contributions are tax
deductible to the full extent
allowed by law, and the tax
ID number will be mailed to
donors from the EOU Foun-
dation offi ce once the dona-
tion has been processed.
