tures in John Day averaged
slightly colder than normal
during the month of March.
The average temperature
was 40.6 degrees which was
1.1 degrees below normal.
High temperatures averaged
52.5 degrees, which was 1.8
degrees below normal. The
highest was 64 degrees on
March 20. Low tempera-
tures averaged 28.6 degrees,

Otis and Kay Ricker of Mt. Vernon took the Eagle on vacation to Las
Vegas to visit daughter Edie Cowell and her husband, Steve, and to
Tuscon, Arizona, to visit Otis’ sister, Mae Armstrong. While in Vegas, the
Rickers took in The Strip, Fremont Street and a rock shop, where they
found a rose quartz that measures 6 feet in diameter and weighs 16,000
pounds.

Russell and Muffett Ricco of Prairie
City, Stephen and Synda Patten of Trout-
dale and Bill and Nancy Jepsen of Hep-
pner announce the engagement of their
children, Caitlin Patten and Eric Jepsen.
The bride-to-be is a 2010 graduate of
Prairie City High School. She is complet-
ing her senior integrated learning practi-
cum in Boise, Idaho, and is scheduled to
graduate in June with a bachelor’s degree
in nursing from Oregon Health and Sci-
ences University and Eastern Oregon University.
The prospective groom graduated in 2010 from Ione High
School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies,
with a minor in music in 2013, and a master’s in teaching (MAT)
degree in 2015 from Eastern Oregon University. He teaches middle
and high school science at Ione Community School.
The couple will be married June 18 at Prairie Baptist Church
in Prairie City.
O BITUARIES
Kenneth Lawrence Harvey
Kenneth Lawrence Harvey, 50, died
March 27 at his Seneca residence. A fu-
neral service was held on April 2 at Sen-
eca School. Interment was at the Keller
Cemetery on the Jack Southworth Ranch
in Bear Valley.
Harvey was born Feb. 7, 1966, in Red-
mond to Neal and Shirley (Weatherford)
Harvey. He graduated from high school in
Anchorage, Alaska, in 1984.
He had a strong faith in God and en-
joyed spending time with his family and helping others. His favorite
hobbies included riding dirt bikes, hunting, ¿ shing and camping. He
especially liked hunting elk, mountain lions and bobcats.
He loved wrenching on anything with a motor and was even
known to have modi¿ ed his own tricycle at the age of 2. He had an
unconditional love for his children and others who were important in
his life. He played hard, loved hard and lived hard with a tremendous
love for life. He had a knack for making everyone, from young to
old, feel special and sincerely important to him.
Survivors include the love of his life, Corey Fultz; his children;
Reuben Harvey, Collin Harvey, Kaitlyn Harvey-Bullard; his chil-
dren’s mother, Margaret Harvey; a granddaughter, Torren Bullard;
his mother, Shirley Harvey; brothers, Steven and Ross Harvey; and
sisters, Patricia Canady, Linda Harvey and Rachel Christiansen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neal, in 2013.

Lola O’Rorke-Kastl
Sept. 21, 1931 — March 26, 2016
Lola Arlene O’Rorke–Kastl, 84, of
Prairie City died March 26 in Yakima,
Washington. A graveside service was held
on April 2 at the Canyon City Cemetery
with Darrell Johnson of¿ ciating.
O’Rorke-Kastl was born on Sept. 21,
1931, in Weiser, Idaho, to Oscar and Sarah
(Andrews) White.
In 1937, the family moved to Bates.
She attended Prairie City High School,
and after graduating, she attended beauty
school in Eugene.
In 1954, she married John Peter O’Rorke. After his death, she
married Miren Woodley in 1976, and after his death, she married
Orien Kastl in 1992.
She worked as a beautician, drove mail on the Middle Fork for
many years and was a rancher. She of¿ cially retired in 1991.
She enjoyed ranch work, antiquing, crocheting, watching elk and
other wildlife and hunting with her son, Charles. She was af¿ liated
with the Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Julia Ileta Hicks of Prairie City
and Marilyn Randall of Mt. Vernon; daughter-in-law, Janice “Jan”
O’Rorke of John Day; grandson, Jake O’Rorke of Beaverton; and
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her ¿ rst husband, John Peter
O’Rorke; second husband, Orien Kastl; son, John Charles O’Rorke;
grandson, Peter Jacob O’Rorke; brother-in-laws, Noble Hicks and
Vern Randall.
