BILL HUTCHINSON
What started as a way to encourage
motorcycle riders passing through to stay
and explore Grant County has made Prairie
City resident and Come Ride With Us map
creator Bill Hutchinson known around the
world.
When he made his first motorcycle map
of Eastern Oregon 14 years ago, he didn’t
realize just how popular they would
become.
Now, with seven maps covering areas
throughout the Pacific Northwest,
Hutchinson said he met a rider from
England in John Day who had been using
the maps for several years to lead tours for
people from Europe.
Hutchinson started riding in 1958 and
said Grant County has “some of the best”
rides with good roads and little traffic. He
once rode an 80-mile loop and saw only
four cars, which were all in the last 10 miles
near Prairie City.
Hutchinson said he has lived in Grant
County for 30 years but still can’t pick a
favorite ride because “there’s too many that
are too good.”
He said rides through Fields Creek and
Murderers Creek (Ride 1), around the back
side of the Strawberry Mountains (Ride 2)
and on the Middle Fork of the John Day
River (Ride 3) are some of the best.
