Riding
IN GRANT COUNTY
GRANT COUNTY’S WINDING HIGHWAYS, SCENIC VIEWS AND
PLENTIFUL BACKROADS OFFER A TREASURE TROVE OF
RIDING EXPERIENCES FOR MOTORCYCLISTS
The scenery features starkly beautiful rock formations at Picture Gorge, west of Dayville on Highway 26, and Cathedral Rock and the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument
area on Highway 19, south of Kimberly. The route between Monument and Long Creek features Sunken Mountain and brightly colored rocky outcroppings. Highway 26 takes
riders along open fields, flanked by mountains, and through the towns of Mt. Vernon, John Day and Prairie City and over the lush forested Dixie Butte to Austin. Highway 395
winds past Canyon Mountain and south to Seneca. Whatever route you choose, expect light traffic, curving roads and fresh air – all amid the beauty of Grant County.
Local riders love the curves and scenery. Favorite rides include the Monument Loop from John Day through Kimberly, Monument and Long Creek;
the Logan Valley Loop from Canyon City to Seneca, and on a forest road to Logan Valley and on to the Trout Farm and Prairie City; and a longer
ride goes from John Day to Unity and to Baker City.
