Bunny Hop 5K
• 8 a.m., South Fork Road, Dayville
This is the third annual Bunny Hop 5K Run/Walk. Regis-
tration is at 8 a.m.; the race starts at 9 a.m. Participants can
park at Dayville School for bus transportation to the starting
line on South Fork Road. The route will end at Dayville City
Park, where an Easter egg hunt will be held afterward. The cost
is $10 a person, and shirts are $10 each. Proceeds bene¿ t the
town’s Fourth of July Celebration. For more information, con-

Spray queen tryouts
• Noon, Spray Rodeo grounds
Queen tryouts will be held for the May 28 and 29 Spray
Rodeo. Contestants do not have to be local or Wheeler County
residents, but they must be at least 15 and never married or had

Holy Lands presentation
• 2:30 p.m., Mt. Vernon Grange
Local resident Josiah Martin and his world-traveling cous-
in Nathanael Martin will offer a presentation on their trip of
a lifetime to the Holy Lands. They will share personal ex-
periences, amazing photos and true life stories during their
10-day trip as they followed the footsteps of Jesus through
the Jordan Valley, boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, Mt. Carm-

Community Garden opens

The John Day Community Garden kicks off the 2016 grow-
ing season with an orientation and work party. New members
are welcome to come check out the garden, help spruce it up
for the coming season alongside veteran gardeners and sign up
for a plot. Fees are $25 for a 5x20 plot or $15 for a 5x10 one,
which includes use of the watering supply and garden shed full
of tools. A pumpkin patch is planned again this year, and there

presentation on foods that naturally discourage cancer cells and

Library Advisory Board: Seven members serve four year
terms and meet monthly to promote public awareness and
support of library services, receive public input, review and
update library materials, and coordinate activities with the
Grant County Library Foundation. Membership is limited to one
re-appointment.
Senior Citizens Advisory Council: Five members serve a
three year term and meet quarterly to define the needs of
older adults, promote special interests and local community
involvement, and represent senior citizens as an advocate to
the local, state and federal government and other
organizations. Membership is limited to one re-appointment.

engine rides throughout town
starting at 9 a.m., and egg
hunt at 10 a.m., both courte-
sy of the Mt. Vernon Fire De-
partment.
• Dayville City Park: Egg
hunt at 10:30 a.m. There will
be four age divisions, from in-
fant through sixth-grade, with
a guarantee of prizes and fun
for all. Prior to the hunt will be
the town’s third annual Bunny

tion is at 8 a.m., and the 5K

We are celebrating the resurrection of our
Savior Jesus Christ
March 23rd to Easter Sunday
Thanks to the Grant County Court and Northeast Oregon Forests
Resource Advisory Committee, Grant Weed Control is able to offer
Noxious Weed Control on Private Grazing Lands, through a Title II
funded Grant Project. This program will provide a maximum $5,000 of
noxious weed control services to qualifying landowners. To be eligible
for participation, the treatment property must not be irrigated and be
primarily managed for livestock grazing, minimum of 20 acres in size,
located within Grant County, and must contain priority noxious weed
species. Applications for this limited weed control assistance
opportunity will be ranked and funded according to a priority noxious
weed list. Contact the Grant Soil and Water Conservation District
office at 541-575-1554 or visit 721 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR
97845 for applications and additional information.
