Let our family of Pharmacists serve you! Faye Louise Elmer May 1, 1930 — March 5, 2016 Faye Louise Elmer, 85, of John Day, died March 5 at Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day. A memorial service was held on March 11 at John Day United Methodist Church. Elmer was born May 1, 1930, in Portland, to Walter Guy Benson and Helen Angie (Poston) Benson. She at- tended Jefferson High School and, in 1951, graduated from the University of Portland College of Nursing. In November 1951, she married Carl Elmer. They divorced in July 1990. She was on the original nursing staff at Blue Mountain Hospital when the facility opened its doors in 1960. She worked there from December 1960 to September 1979. In later years there, she served as a head nurse and director of nursing. After leaving the hospital, she worked for the Malheur Na- tional Forest as a clerk from 1982-1997. In the early 2000s until 2014, she was the secretary at John Day United Meth- odist Church. She was an avid football fan; her favorite team was the Chicago Bears. Survivors include her son, Dennis Elmer of Bend; daugh- ter, Gwenn Roberts of Bend; grandson, Scott Elmer of Spring- ¿ eld; and granddaughter Rachael Leach of Beaverton. A reception will fol- low at the John Day American Legion Hall. Johnson was born July 20, 1922, in Fossil, to Carl and Alice Hibner Iremonger. She attended school in Wheeler County and graduated in 1940. On March 9, 1942, she married Elmer Johnson in Steven- son, Wash. She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm, feed- ing birds and following high school athletic teams and the Portland Trailblazers. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary since 1946. Her greatest accomplishments were raising four boys and helping out on the ranch, as well as being active in the Amer- ica Legion Auxiliary on the election board for several years. Survivors include her sons, Lester (Georgene) Johnson of Enterprise, Robert (Teresa) Johnson of Princeton, Donald (Heidi) Johnson of Germany and Larry (Debbie) Johnson of Joseph; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
