Personal stories of victory over substance addiction and mental health
disorders will be part of a “Story Time” event, on Friday, March 4th,
sponsored by Grant County Safe Communities Coalition. The community is
invited, especially those who want to celebrate people in recovery and
friends and relatives of those affected by these conditions.
The event kicks off with a free dinner from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and door prizes, at
the Cornerstone Cafe, 139 N.E. Dayton, across from the John Day Elks
Lodge.
The highlight of the evening will be personal stories of hope, strength and
courage from three people, telling stories of their journeys to recovery from
addiction and mental health disorders.
Most everyone knows someone affected by addiction or mental health
conditions. We want to show that you can find freedom, and share the
resources available. There is often a stigma that comes with addiction, the
flip side is that a person – even one with strong addictions – can change for
the better. Our goal is to reduce the stigma surrounding addictions and
mental health conditions at this wonderful event!
Story Time is an opportunity to hear what a person has gone through and
how they’ve changed their life. The event highlights that addictions and
mental health disorders can affect people of any age and varied
backgrounds.
There is hope and help available. Recovery is possible, and it is possible to
learn a whole new way to live and enjoy your life, clean and sober, no matter
how far down you’ve gone, there is a way up – a way to freedom.
