A prospective initiative petition seeks to overturn
Grant County’s commercial marijuana ban. If the
petitioner collects 196 signatures from active,
registered county voters by Feb. 17, county voters
will see the initiative on the May ballot.
Initiative petition seeks to
overturn county pot ban
Grant County voters may
ultimately decide whether pot
businesses should be allowed.
David Kilpatrick, Canyon
City, ¿led a prospective initia-
tive petition that, if approved
by a majority of voters on the
May ballot, would overturn
the county ban and allow the
production, cultivation, pro-
cessing, wholesaling, retail-
ing and testing of marijuana
as permitted by the state in
areas outside of city limits
within the county.

Governor, sheriff
violated oath
To the Editor:
Gov. Brown is guilty as an
accessory to murder along
with the sheriff of Harney
County.
Rancher LaVoy Fini-
cum was ambushed and
murdered by Gov. Brown’s
executive order to end the
standoff at the Malheur Na-
tional Wildlife Refuge. Gov.
Brown and the sheriff both
took an oath to the consti-
tution to protect and defend
it; this includes everyone’s
civil rights.
They have violated their
oath. Rancher LaVoy Fini-
cum was executed with his
hands in the air: “Hands up,
don’t shoot.” Mr. Finicum
had no weapons on him, and
they shot him nine times in-
cluding in the face.
Gov. Brown and the
sheriff should resign their
posts and await prosecu-
tion. Ammon Bundy, the
leader of the group, had
stated many times they
were there to work on a
peaceful solution to the
government’s overreach to
consume and control public
lands.

forth in the Oregon Constitu-
tion to concern only one sub-
ject and to contain the full text
of the proposed law.
Percy said, for the initia-
tive to be placed on the May
ballot, the petitioner must col-
lect signatures from 196 ac-
tive, registered county voters
— 6 percent of the number
who voted in the last gover-
nor’s race — by Feb. 17. If
the deadline is not met, she
said, the petitioner has up to
two years to collect the re-
quired number of signatures
at least 90 days prior to the
May or November ballot on
which it would appear.

pened). He left and came
home to get his vehicle and
then picked up the district
attorney and drove to Sene-
ca. He never knew about the
ambush, or had anything to
do with it.
In Seneca (over 25 miles
away from the incident), he
pulled up to the road block
by the state police. While he
was talking to them, a car
pulled up and a trooper said
they have a rifle. So Glenn
pulled out his shotgun for
protection for himself and
the D.A. It turned out to
be a reporter, who took his
picture while he was putting
away his gun. Thus starting
a new rumor.
He refuses to talk to the
media because they never
get the information right.
I don’t usually speak out,
but I am tired of all the lies
and misquotes of the media.
Glenn believes in the people
of Grant County and stands
up for them.
This is our home, and
we care about what happens
here.

HOW TO BE SINGLE R
To the Editor:
As the wife of (Sher-
iff) Glenn Palmer, I feel
compelled to set the record
straight regarding allega-
tions involving meetings
and a community event that
Sheriff Palmer was asked to
attend.
When he was invited to
a lunch meeting, he did not
know who was going to be
in attendance.
When he was asked to go
to Burns, to help mediate
the meetings, he told them
no, not without the consent
of their sheriff.
He never met with Am-
mon Bundy as quoted in
the Oregonian, or LaVoy
Finicum. He didn’t set up
the community event at the
Senior Center.
He wasn’t going to ad-
dress the group except for
a few minutes to clear up
these allegations, when he
heard about the shooting
(over two hours after it hap-
