Ava Belle Ensign
Clayton and Thea Ensign of Merid-
ian, Idaho, announce the birth of their
daughter, Ava Belle Ensign, on Oct. 19.
She weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and
was 19 inches long.
Grandparents are Craig and Jan En-
sign of Long Creek, Wes and Terri Aas-
ness of Mt. Vernon, and Kim Chesley
of John Day. Great-grandparents are
John and Diane Aasness of John Day.

Noble Hicks
Feb. 27, 1933 – Nov. 23, 2015
Noble Hicks, 82, of Prairie City
died Nov. 23 at his home, surrounded
by family. A funeral service was held
Saturday, Nov. 28, at Grace Chapel in
Prairie City. Interment followed at the
Prairie City Cemetery and a potluck re-
ception at the Strawberry Grange Hall
in Prairie City.
Mr. Hicks was born Feb. 27, 1933,
in Ava, Mo., to Sophus and Maggie
Hicks.
On Sept. 2, 1952, he married Julia Ileta White in Vale. He
worked as a millwright for San Juan, Hudspeth and Prairie
Wood until he retired in 1996.
He enjoyed hunting, fi shing and spending time with his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Ileta Hicks, of Prairie City;
sons, Larry (Eva) Hicks of Green Creek, Idaho, and Dean (Bar-
bara) Hicks of Prairie City; daughter, Joyce (Mike) Cearns of
Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchil-
dren.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain
Hospice through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon
Blvd. John Day, OR 97845.

cording to preliminary data
received by NOAA’s Na-
tional Weather Service in
Pendleton Oregon, tem-
peratures at John Day av-
eraged much colder than
normal during the month of
November.
The average temperature
was 33.5 degrees – 5.4 de-
grees below normal. High
temperatures averaged 44.4
degrees – 5.3 degrees below
normal. The highest was
68 degrees on Nov. 1. Low
temperatures averaged 22.7
degrees – 5.4 degrees below
normal. The lowest was 1
degree, on Nov. 27.
There were 24 days with
the low temperature below
32 degrees. There were five
days when the high tem-
perature stayed below 32
degrees.
Precipitation
totaled
John “Jack” Fisher, 75, of Dayville, died Nov. 29 at St.
Charles Medical Center in Bend. A graveside service will be
at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Dayville Cemetery. A potluck
will follow.

el, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.

clothing for local children.
Donations of coats,
sweaters, boots, gloves,
hats, scarves and snow pants
start of December to 41.0 de-
grees at the end of December.
