History Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, December 2, 2015 A11 O UT OF THE PAST A look back on news from Grant County over the past 100 years, pulled from past issues Dec. 2, 1915 – Grant County Journal – 100 yrs. ago who is now in business – show a little of the Christmas spirit of good will by giving him an even chance with the mail order mil- lionaire. Nov. 29, 1940 – Blue Twenty-one more days until Mountain Eagle Christmas, and the time of year – 75 yrs. ago when “Do Your Christmas Shop- ping Early” meets the eye at ev- ery turn. Undoubtedly it is a good idea for both merchant and pur- chaser, but the main thing is to do it in Prairie, whether it is early or late. Prairie merchants have the goods, and they will supply your needs without putting on an extra price for Christmas. Now is the time to begin looking around and laying plans for your Christmas purchases. Local merchants are getting their holiday goods in and placing them on display, and they won’t kick if you send away for things that you can not get here, in fact, they will send for you, and do as well or better than you could. But the things that will be needed and can not be had here are few and far between, because the holiday lines in Prairie this year are as good as can be found in many a larger city. Play fair with your neighbor Rumor to Contrary: Regard- less of the gossip, Christmas will come on December 25th. That is the latest news from the front. Of course you can hang up your stocking on the 25th of every month in the year. There is no law for it or against it but it would be what the cockeyed world would call an idle gesture. Children were al- lowed to frost their own Christ- mas cookie and free face paint- ing was available. Of course, Santa was there too, with the help of his elf dude, Daniel Rod- gers.
