WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT TO
YOU: Education is important to me because I
know that the children we work with are our
future: leaders, business owners….. The skills
and knowledge they learn while in school will
help them to achieve their goals in life.
WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT TO
YOU: We talk about education as being the
key that opens the doors of opportunity. Kids
living on the eastern side and attending
smaller schools see themselves at a
disadvantage. Education can be the ticket
that levels the playing field.
Our community can help Humbolt at this time
by providing coats for “Coats for Kids”
program, donating school supplies, becoming
a lunch buddy and attending PTA meetings.
WHAT CAN FAMILIES DO AT HOME TO
HELP WITH THE EDUCATION OF THEIR
CHILDREN: Read to them and become
involved in their kids school activities.

WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT TO
YOU: As a first generation American my
mother always encouraged us to do well in
school and “get a college education,” to use
the advantages that this country offers. The
confidence and success of individuals,
communities, countries and our world are
based upon the quality of our educational
system. In the words of G.K. Chesterton:
“Education is simply the soul of a society as it
passes from one generation to another.”
Bus
Drivers
Bus drivers take on an
important role -
providing safe
transportation for our
children, whether it is
to and from school,
field trips or sporting events.
Debbie Corwin, 21 yrs with GSD NO. 3 says, “I
love all the kids and they are like family to
me. If anything ever happened (to any of
them) I would be devastated.”
Pam Woodworth, 10 yrs with GSD NO. 4 says,
“I love driving the bus… It’s interesting to
watch these kids grow and see all the
different personalities… I like to think I can
make a kid cheer up if they are a little down,
or make a kid feel good about something
they might have done. I love seeing them
smile as they get on or off the bus.”

YOU: I believe education builds the future.
WHAT CAN FAMILIES DO AT HOME TO
HELP WITH THE EDUCATION OF THEIR
CHILDREN: Families play a very important
role in the education of children. Parents
need to read to their children at an early age.
It is also important to talk and listen to them.
The community needs to volunteer and
participate and support all activities.

SCHOOL: This community does a LOT for our
schools, so if they continue as they have, we
will be blessed!!

WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT TO YOU: I
always felt that my duty as an educator was
not to make little scientists, biologists or
mathematicians out of the students in my
care, but rather to develop within them the
two most significant attributes that
individuals need to be successful in life: to
become responsible and to learn how to
think. One cannot occur without the other
and it is the combination of these that leads
to success and a student doing the very best
they can with what they have.

WHY IS
EDUCATION IMPORTANT TO YOU: One
of the most important aspects of any society is the
youngest generation, they represent the future and
the direction that society will take. A proper
education can enrich a young generation of
children so that the future is a safe, secure and
great place to live in for every person in the society.
Parents set expectations, nurture curiosity and
cultivate discipline. Since parents have the
responsibility and privilege of influencing those
three critical areas during the early years of life,
they have the ability to set a child’s learning
trajectory.

YOU: Education is the great equalizer. Armed
with education, we are limited only by our
own ambition. Education offers chances that
our forbearers may not have had.
WHAT CAN FAMILIES DO AT HOME TO
HELP WITH THE EDUCATION OF THEIR
CHILDREN: Two things: One, don’t tell your
kids how you were never any good at a
subject. Two, expect your children to go
farther than you did.
