Rabbit Pelts & Tanned Products

Pelts must have been taken from rabbits owned by 4-
H member during the current year and must have been
skinned, stretched and prepared by the exhibitor. Each
member is limited to a maximum of 2 pelts. They may
be in the same class. They will be divided into sub-
classes by weight for judging: fryer pelts 21/2-4 oz.;
baker pelts 4-8 oz.; and mature pelts, over 8 oz. A
champion pelt will be selected. Freedom from holes,
flesh or fat, mildew, hutch stains and general condition
of the pelt will be considered as well as the density, tex-
ture and quality of the fur.
NO RABBIT PELTS WILL BE SHOWN AT STATE FAIR
IN 2014.

HORSES
Grant County 4-H Horse Show
Saturday, AUGUST 1, 2015
Effective January 1, 1996, all Oregon 4-H members
participating in any equestrian activity, regardless
of riding seat, will wear a properly fitted equestrian
helmet which meets the standards imposed by the
American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM)
F1163 and includes certification and labeling re-
quired by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI).
Such headgear will be secured with the harness en-
gaged and be properly fastened when mounted on
an equine or in a vehicle (cart, wagon, buggy, etc.)
being pulled by one or more equine. Participants
are to be mounted on the horse in the arena while
performing the required movements unless Trail Class
calls for dismount. A horse certificate must be on
file in the Extension office by May 1 for each horse
that will be used in the Ranch Horse Contest and/or
the 4-H Horse Show.
B.
Horse show judges have the authority and re-
sponsibility to disqualify or eliminate any horse they
consider to be a potential safety hazard in an event.
C.
All exhibitors' numbers must be secured and
clearly visible at all times when in competition or con-
testant will be disqualified.
D.
Check project book and contest booklet for
clothing and tack requirements.
E.
Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons are
given to the top two members in each age division in
these classes: Showmanship, Bareback, Ranch
Horse, Western Equitation, English Equitation and Trail
-- if such quality is determined by the judge.
F.
County level Hi Point Horseman award is given
to the top member in each age division who enters
and competes in all of the following classes:
Showmanship, Bareback, Trail and either Western or
English Equitation on the same horse. Members who
enter both English and Western Equitation must des-
ignate upon entering which class they want to count.
Members do not have to enter ALL classes to go for
county Hi Point.
G.
Intermediate and Senior members may qualify
for the State Fair by accumulating a combined score
of 170 points in: Showmanship and Western or
English Equitation Members who enter both English
and Western Equitation must designate upon enter-
ing which class they want to count. IF NO DESIGNA-
TION IS MADE, THE CLASS WITH THE LOWEST
SCORE WILL BE USED.
H.
The judge has the authority to ask the ex-
hibitor to drop the bridle and bit for inspection if the
judge so desires.
I.
All general rules pertaining to ownership, etc.
as listed under livestock will be adhered to. EXCEP-
TION: 4-H horse members may enter open class.
J.
No wire curbs, regardless of how padded or
taped, or no chin strap narrower than one-half inch
will be permitted. Chain curbs are permissible, but
must meet the approval of the judge and must be at
least one-half inch in width, lying flat against the jaw
of the horse.
K.
No tiedowns or hackamore bits (mechanical
hackamore) will be allowed.
L.
A single animal may NOT be entered in both
Colt Training/Ground Work and Colt Training/First Year
Riding within a single year. 90% of the training work
must be done by the 4-H member.
M.
A member may enter only one animal per
class.
N.
Stallions older than one year and wet mares
may not be shown in 4-H classes.
O.
Horses will not be allowed on trail or jumping
course after it is set up. Riders may inspect course
on foot prior to the start of the class at management's
discretion.
P.
No horse will be allowed to compete if tranquil-
izers have been administered within 72 hours of
show.
Q.
A separate horse may be used for Gaming,
Driving, Dressage and Colt Training.
General Rules
A.
Members are encouraged to use regular slip-
on boots. Boot heels that are as tall as possible are
also strongly recommended for riding activities.

Wool & Mohair

Each member is limited to one fleece in a class. Fleeces
must have been shorn in 2011 and be from animals
owned by the 4-H member. Each fleece must have a 4-
H Wool Show Tag indicating breed and class number.
Place fleeces in a clear plastic bag with exhibitor
name and county clearly written with felt marker on
lower half of the bag. The 4-H Wool Show Tag should
be inserted inside the bag and visible through the
bag. Judging criteria is outlined on 4-H Fleece Exhibit
Score Card (40-610) available at the county Extension
office or on the State 4-H website at

All classes except 771 407 000 and 771416000 are
white fleeces. All colored fleeces (black, brown, etc.)
must be entered in class 771 407 000 Romney, col-
ored or 771 416 000 Colored Fleece (any breed or
cross, indicate breed on tag.) Colored Romney are a
separate registry.
