This year’s festival, which launches the 2015 season of the market, is set
for Saturday, June 20, on Southwest Brent Street in John Day. The market,
now in its sixth season, continues every Saturday through mid-October,
featuring locally grown produce and handcrafted goods, a tasting booth,
and at times, music and kids activities. Hours are 9 a.m.-noon, although
early customers are welcome, since many vendors start setting up as

JOHN DAY – Family Fun
Day – an annual crowd-pleaser
– will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday, June 20, in John Day
City Park.
In its eighth year, the day
offers arts, crafts and activi-
ty booths galore, run by local
groups, to entertain kids of all
ages. Most activities are free,
while some have a minimal cost.
Several big attractions – such
as the water slide, bounce house,
Ga-Ga Ball, dunk tank and train
– cost just $5 per person for the
day, or $20 per family. Presale
wristbands may be purchased at
Families First Parent Resource
Center, 401 S. Canyon Blvd.,
John Day.
New this year is a kids bi-
athlon with running and biking
events, starting at 11:30 a.m.
Nearby Gleason Pool will
be open, with no admission cost
during Fun Day hours.
Hamburgers and hot dogs
will be served for $1 each, and
snow cones are free.
Families First executive di-
rector Teresa Aasness said the
efforts of several Grant County
groups and businesses make the
family-friendly event possible
each year.
This year, according to Aas-
ness, the Healthy Together Proj-
ect provided major sponsorship,
which allowed the booth reg-
istration fees to be waived and
several more to be registered
than last year.
Anyone interested in helping
with the event, hosting a booth
or planning next year’s Family
Fun Day, can call Aasness at
541-575-1006.
