ATV rolls over
worker near creek
Blue Mountain Eagle
MT. VERNON – Rescu-
ers were called out Monday
to aid a 40-year-old man
whose ATV rolled over him,
breaking his leg, on steep
terrain between Mt. Vernon
and Dayville.
Grant County Sheriff
Glenn Palmer said the ac-
cident occurred as Joseph
“Scott” Hazlett was fencing
on private land along Marks
Creek. Coming to steep
ground, he decided to walk
it across the hillside, but the
machine rolled over him.
The ATV rolled several
times and came to rest in
the creek, and Hazlett was
able to scoot down the hill,
where he called his employ-
er by cell phone and waited
for help.
However, those coming
to his aid called the Sher-
iff’s Office after finding
Hazlett was about a quar-
ter-mile from the end of a
road and would need help
getting packed out.
Palmer said Hazlett’s
right lower leg was broken
in three places. He was tak-
en by private vehicle to Blue
Mountain Hospital and lat-
er transferred to St. Charles
Medical Center in Bend by
ground ambulance.
