Hallelujah and PTL!
We had a good turnout with 76 names on the registration book. The
Blue Mountain Care Center ladies, Lorna and Joni, brought Dorothy
Blasing, Lois Hill, Dollina Humphreys and Floyd Morgan.
The gift certificate from Java Jungle went to Carla Wright. Prairie
Hardware and Gifts awarded theirs to Alma Joslin. And “Chairman”
Joe Phippen gets to go eat at Chuck’s Little Diner.
Buzz led the flag salute, and Joe asked the blessing. Our volunteer
servers included JoAnn Phippen, Sandi Rennels, Fran Bunch, Donna
Adams and Pam Howard.
There was still some beans and pasta to take home.
The cooks set up a juice dispenser on the counter, so if you wanted
some you could take your juice glass and get it yourself. The servers
always come around and pour coffee or tea and dispense milk or
buttermilk. We had individual salad bowls with a dressed green salad,
and then came pickled beets and pasta – it probably has a fancy
Italian name, but I don’t know what it is – onto which we poured our

JOHN DAY –On
April 13, we had real
yummy hot turkey
sandwiches with
mashed potatoes and
gravy, green beans with
bacon and onions, and
for dessert, peach
cobbler. Ron Dowse
and Margaret Glass greeted us at the desk.
Francis and Bonnie Kocis delivered 20 meals and eight frozen
ones to shut-ins. Redeemer Lutheran Church members were our
servers. Buzz Gilmore led the flag salute, and Francis Kocis asked
the blessing.
Veanne Weddle announced the reason for the peach cobbler was
because according to her computer, it was National Peach Cobbler
Day. Wait and see what she comes up with next for the cooks. Might
be interesting.
The black jacket is still here, so please check your closets.
Thursday, April 30, will be the day we celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
Dale Stennett won the Len’s Drug gift certificate, and Lisa Miller
won the free meal.
On April 16, we had spaghetti Bolongnese, which translated,
means “spaghetti with meat sauce.” Served with it was green salad
and bread sticks, with bread pudding for dessert.
I heard some scuttle about someone who wouldn’t come to lunch
because he didn’t know what it was. Anyone with questions at any
time about the menu can call the Senior Center, 541-575-1825, and
helping of beef stroganoff. Mmm. As the boys out at Flag Prairie
would say, “Larpin’ Good Truck.”
We also had focaccia bread; spell checker says that both “focaccia”
and “foccacia” are wrong, so I give up. Dessert was maple bars and a
truffle. Oh, my goodness. Those cooks have more fun dreaming up
things for us to try out. Come and see for yourself.
We had a high old time at the Evening of Entertainment on April
18. If you missed it, too bad, so sad. But there will be others. From
the opening national anthem to the closing “Hallelujah,” a good time
was had by participants and audience alike. We just about filled up
the seats available, and the desserts were overflowing, too. Even with
illness and unexpected travel, all the slots for serving and entertaining
were filled. Kudos to those who stepped in and helped in any way.
Couple of funnies: Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground
with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it’s called golf.
When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth,
stop and think of algebra. Now I know some engineers who won’t
think that is funny, but for the rest of us math-challenged, we get it.
Just went out and checked the transplanted grape vine and yes,
there is new growth a-comin’! Shall we take bets on how high it will
get this year? There was a hop vine over on the south side of town
that used to climb to the top of the power pole each year. Wonder if
it’s still allowed?

someone will be glad to help. Also, instead of telling your friends
when you don’t like something, let the cooks know. They’ll be glad to
hear your input. There is also a suggestion box at the Center.
Ron Dowse and Bonnie Kocis greeted us at the desk. The entrée
was furnished by DP Enterprises – Radio Shack.
Sheri Feiger and Jean Willey delivered 25 meals, and Shay Lewis
covered the Mt. Vernon area. Our servers were from the United
Methodist Church. Jean Willey led the flag salute, and Pastor Marcie
Collins asked the blessing.
Veanne announced there will be a “Spring Fling” dance from 1-4
p.m. Saturday, April 25, here at the Center. There will be live music
by Up River Country Band, and refreshments will be served.
On Friday, April 24, there will be a going away party for Gene and
Barbara Brady at 4 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Grange.
We were glad to see Buz Glass back and looking well after his
surgery.
Linda Stoltz has received some new material for our library, so stop
in and check it out. She even has some VCR tapes and exercise tapes.
Also thank you to Chester’s Thriftway for the donations of breads and
popcorn.
Gail Heising won the Chester’s gift certificate, and Don Caldwell
won the lunch for two at Valley View.
On April 23, we will have oven-fried chicken, and on Monday,
April 27, it will be pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. Come join
us.

essential oils to help ward them off.
So, we had one of my favorite items on the menu: hamburger steak
– along with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, rolls and fruit cake. We
got grilled onions and mushrooms to go with our hamburger steaks
too. My tummy was quite happy and satisfied. I actually wanted to eat
