JOHN DAY – The Grant
County Chamber of Com-
merce is launching Grant
County Greenbacks, a pro-
gram to boost member busi-
nesses and support the local
economy.
The Chamber will sell the
specially designed green-
backs in denominations of
$15 and $25.
Chamber manager Tam-
my Bremner said purchas-
ers may want to spend the
greenbacks themselves, or
use them as gifts, employee
incentives or rewards, auc-
tion items, prizes and other
promotions.
The greenbacks can be
spent for the dollar amount at
stores and businesses that are
current Chamber members
and are participating in the
program.
A number of those busi-
nesses are printed on the
back of the greenbacks,
and the full list of Chamber
members is available online.
Participating businesses also
will be encouraged to post
a sign on their door or win-
dow.
In turn, the participat-
ing businesses redeem the
Greenbacks at the Chamber
office, dollar for dollar.
Bremner said the Cham-
ber is encouraging people to
buy and spend Grant County
Greenbacks to support local
businesses and keep more
shopping dollars local.
For information, call the
Chamber at 541-575-0547
or visit the office at 301 W.
Main St., John Day.

the community. The Wilsons also hope it’s
an opportunity their children, Rowdy, 6,
and Addison, 3, can look forward to taking
over in the future.
Recently, Mitch has also been passing
the torch of knowledge in welding and
welding technologies to high schoolers. For
the past two years, he has assisted at the
Grant Union Junior-Senior High School
metal shop, which he hopes to continue.
When they’re not welding, the Wil-
sons, who were both born and raised in
Grant County, help run the family ranch,
Ingle Butte, in Mt. Vernon.
Wilson’s Welding and Fabrication is
open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and is
located on Lower Yard Road in John Day.

SALEM – State Sen.
Ted Ferrioli, R-John Day,
was honored last week for
his continuing support of
options in public educa-
tion.
He received a Golden
Apple Award from the Ore-
gon Virtual Public Schools
Alliance during a rally last
week on the Capitol steps.
“Virtual schools are
traveling a new Oregon
Trail and exploring new
areas of innovation in ed-
ucation not yet explored,”
said Ferrioli. “They are one
of many important options
for children and their par-
ents who, for a variety of
reasons, may not achieve
their greatest potential in a
brick-and-mortar school.
“We need to continue
exploring and expanding
education options for Or-
egon students so they are
prepared for successful ca-
reers and futures.”
The alliance is a non-
profit organization that
promotes access to virtual
public education in Ore-
gon.
