A2 Family Blue Mountain Eagle Grant Union gets a health center Grand opening will be May 7 Blue Mountain Eagle JOHN DAY – A grand opening for a new School- Based Health Center at Grant Union Junior-Senior High School will be from 3:30-6 p.m. Thursday, May 7. The center, located in the GU old gym,will pro- vide patient-centered care services for all students, regardless of other health insurance coverage, and involve students in their own health care decisions while encouraging fami- ly communication about health. Starting Tuesday, May 12, and through the rest of this school year, the health center will be open 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 a.m.- noon on Thursdays. Family nurse practi- tioners Karen Triplett and Lindsay Maghan will be the medical providers at the center. Some of the services of- fered include: • Routine physicals, and well-child and sports ex- ams. • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. • Treat minor injuries and illnesses. • Vision, dental and blood pressure screenings. • Vaccinations. • Alcohol and drug pre- vention and treatment. • Deliver preventative health and wellness mes- saging. • Mental health counsel- ing. • Reproductive health services. • Classroom health and wellness presentations. • Prescribe medication. • Help students find so- cial supports. SBHCs have been in Oregon since 1986, and succeed through partner- ships with the Oregon Pub- lic Health Division, school districts, county public health departments, par- ents, students, public and private practitioners, and community members. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 O BITUARY Melvin Louis Moore Jr. Aug. 26, 1948 – April 10, 2015 Melvin Louis Moore Jr., 66, died April 10, at his Sen- eca home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Riverview Cemetery in Portland. A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Grubsteak Mining Company in John Day. Mr. Moore was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Portland, to Melvin Moor Sr. and Katherine Roth. He attended Gilbert and Pack Rose high schools. He then served as an electrician’s apprentice before becoming a li- censed electrician. He worked as an electrician for Western State Inc. and Willamette Iron and Steel. He was a member of the Inter- Melvin Louis national Brotherhood of Electrical Moore Jr Workers Local 48 and the Chair- man Marine Executive Board. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his son, Greg (Georgia) Graven of Carlton; brother, William Moore of Dayton; sisters Kath- erine Fors of Vancouver, Wash., and Barbara Lombard of Portland; and 17 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Katherine Moore, and sisters, Josephine “Walkanee” Graham and Jayne Graham Haid- er.
