JOHN DAY – On April 6,
we had tuna noodle casserole,
peas, green salad, garlic toast
and apple cupcakes with cara-
mel icing. It was all very
good. Ron Dowse and Susan
Fowle greeted us at the desk.
Isa Larkin and Joyce No-
dine delivered 20 meals, and
18 frozen ones went to shut-
ins. Veanne Weddle deliv-
ered to the Mt. Vernon area.
Our servers were from Blue
Mountain Hospital Auxiliary.

some of the Eagle staff: Kris-

and Scotta Callister. Thank
you folks, for furnishing the
meal and also for joining us.
It’s nice to see the people who
sponsor the meals.
Marianne Morris and Glo-
ria Kulis greeted us at the
desk. Al Altnow and Chris
Labhart delivered 25 meals
in the John Day area. Veanne
took 10 frozen meals to shut-

week.
Our servers were from

Levi Manitsas told a story
before asking the blessing. It
was nice to see Levi’s wife
and daughter join him. Wel-
come, and please come back.
That little one is a doll.
Veanne thanked Gary
Lieuallen for donating a whole
ham. She also announced there
has been a black jacket here
for a few weeks. If you’ve lost
one, please come claim it.
It was Ron and Roberta
Dowse’s 13th wedding an-
niversary. Buz Glass was air
lifted to Bend with a heart
problem the day before. They
are inserting a pace maker and
he is doing well. Should be
home in a day or two.
Ron Dowse announced
there will be a going away
party for Gene and Barbara
Brady, 4 p.m. Friday, April
24, at the Mt. Vernon Grange
Hall. Finger foods will be
served.
Bonnie Hester won the

those under 60. Come join
the fun and fellowship, then
stay for bingo. We had a good
turnout, and hope to have one
next week also.
On Monday, April 20,
we’ll have a free meal of ham
and lima beans, with salad
and cornbread with whipped
honey butter.

out to check the transplanted
grape vine; I believe I see new
buds a-comin’! Oh, goody.
The spring bulbs are all in full
bloom, and the trees are get-
ting green, so I assume spring
has come to Grant County. On
that note, remember the Eve-
ning of Entertainment on Sat-
urday, April 18. The theme is
“Spring.” If you aren’t careful,
you’ll miss “Spring” in Grant
County.
It was 65 degrees at some
point the last of March, and

Discovered this morning that
“Good-bye” means “God bless
you.”
We had grape juice, a veg-
gie plate, Fonda’s baked beans,
potatoes, barbecue pulled pork,
rolls and an apple-cheesecake
with caramel topping. There
were 67 people enjoying this de-
licious meal. The Blue Mountain
Care Center ladies, Lorna and
Jonie, brought Dorothy Blasing,
Lois Hill, Dollina Humphreys
and Idamae Tussing.
We’re pleased to announce

food bank.
Found another person with
a connection to the Jewel and
Katie Walker family we lived
next to, back in the 1950s: Na-
dine Smith. Kate was her aunt.
Usually girls are named Jewel,
but he was a “gem” of a man.
Always reminded me of actor
Clint Walker, tall and ruggedly
handsome. Anyhow, the point
is, isn’t it amazing all these

Hopefully after the Evening
of Entertainment doings, I’ll
get back to the harp. First have
to replace a couple of strings.
They’re not as easy to do as
violin, cello or guitar strings.
There’s even a special “harper’s
knot” you are supposed to use,
and a diagram of how to make
it, but I am awful at following
those things. Can’t even make
