group festival competition
for the third consecutive
year.

Community Garden work party
• 9 a.m.-noon, John Day Community Garden, 3rd Street Ex-
tension
Volunteers and new gardeners are welcome to help spruce
up the garden for the 2015 season. Bring work gloves and
tools, if you have them. For those interested in a garden
space, the cost is $15 for a 5 by 10-foot bed and $25 for a 5
by 20-foot one. The work parties continue until the garden’s

SUNDAY, APRIL 5
Sunrise service and breakfast
• 6:30 a.m., Airport Road, John Day
All are welcome to the Grant County Ministerial Associa-
tion’s annual Easter sunrise service and breakfast. Volunteers
will be at the horseshoe curve on Airport Road to assist people
getting to the service site. A free shuttle will also be available,
but waiting area seating will be limited. A complimentary break-
fast will follow at about 7:45 a.m. at First Christian Church, 311
N.E. Dayton St., John Day. Donations will be accepted for the
breakfast, with all the proceeds going to the Grant County Food
Bank.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8
Cycling tourism meeting
• 1:30-4:30 p.m., Squeeze-In Restaurant, John Day
Oregon State Parks and Recreation will talk about the suc-
cess of bicycle tourism and what can be done to expand it.
Lunch can be ordered before or during the meeting. People do
not need to stay for the entire meeting. For more information,

annual rummage sale with bargains galore, in the church’s par-

SATURDAY, APRIL 11
Genealogy seminar
• 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Kimberly Rock Products pit
There will be jackpots; Annie Oakley; men’s, women’s
and kids competitions; and more. The cost is $3 per shoot.
Monument School students in grades 5-8 will provide con-
cessions. Proceeds will go toward their upcoming field trip.
This is also the last in the series of four shoots to win a Sav-
age 17 HMR Bolt Action rifle. Participants must be at three
of the shoots to qualify. The cost for the separate competition
is $25 for 25 shots. The pit is located at the 9-mile marker on
County Road 402, between Kimberly and Monument. Call
