JOHN DAY – People at-
tending this year’s Grant
County Community Art-
ists exhibition found it well
worth the short jaunt up Air-
port Hill.
Work from 34 artists was
on display March 6-7 at the
Grant County Regional Air-
port in John Day.
Five authors also had their
books at the show.
Artists could bring up
to four works of art, and
the mediums – oil, acrylic,
gouache, color pencil, pastel,
watercolor, sculpture, pho-
tography, and more – were as
wide-ranging as the styles.
Mary Snyder, the Grant
County Art Association pres-
ident who also had a few
paintings on display, was
impressed with the caliber of
artistry on show.
“I see the ones who partic-
ipate year after year and how
they’ve improved, and some
of them are really amazing,”
she said.
A loose-knit group of art-
ists, including Patricia Ross,
plan the event, which started
in 2008.
“I thought it was a huge
success,” Ross said. “Each
year we discover ways to
improve. We hope to get
more people involved. It
was really good, and I want
to thank all the artists and
authors who participated.”
Ross, who showed some
of her work, said the airport
was a beautiful setting for
the event.
Anyone who would like
to join the art group’s meet-
ings is welcome, she said.
The artists hope to schedule
an outdoor show this sum-
mer.
