Lady Pros crush Elgin on senior night
Team faces Union
at district on Friday

JOHN DAY – The Grant Union
girls celebrated their senior night with
a 67-33 win over the Elgin Huskies
last Saturday.
The Prospectors now enter this
week’s 2A Wapiti District Tournament
seeded third.
“We accomplished our goal to win
out the last three games of the year,
and it gives us momentum heading
into the playoffs,” said head coach
Mark Mosley.
“Now our goal is to play for the
district championship and get to the
state playoffs,” he added.
The Lady Pros, playing at Eastern
Oregon University in La Grande, will
meet up with Union at 1 p.m. Friday.
They beat Union 46-39 at home
Feb. 7, after losing on the Bobcats’
home court Jan. 16, 50-54.
The Lady Pros are ranked No. 11
in state and have a 15-7 overall record,
8-4 in league.
Grant Union’s win last Saturday
over Elgin was marked by a big third
quarter.
The Prospectors went into half-
time, leading 31-21.
Third quarter got a jump start when
Kori Pentzer landed a 2-point shot off
a steal.
McKenzie Wilson was also aggres-
sive in steals and scored 7 points in the
quarter.
Heather Mosley and Emily Mosley
also each went 2-0 from the free-throw
line.
Grant Union outscored Elgin by 30
in the third quarter, 51-21.
“I was very pleased with how
everybody played, and it was a
great way to send our seniors out,”
coach Mosley said. “I challenged
them to keep their intensity up on

“They work so well as a
team,” Schafer said. “They
rebounded well, and they
were aggressive to the loose

Dakota Emerson and Jor-
dan Bowlus were both hap-
py with the win.
“We had a rough first
half, but we put it togeth-
er in the second half and
finished the game strong,”
Emerson said. “We just
played like we know how
and had fun.”
Bowlus said the team
won with “teamwork, atti-
tude and hard work.”
He said he wasn’t wor-
ried about Flower’s injury
in the game – “We have oth-
er people that can fight just
as hard, so we’ll be fine.”
Burnt River head coach
Skeeter Duby was hopeful
last Friday to move his team
on to district play, however
the Bulls lost their playoff
game to Prairie City Mon-
day night.

on the road to Harper/Hun-
tington the next night.
The team is preparing
for this week’s 1A High
Desert District Tourna-
ment, facing Crane at 7:45
p.m. Friday.
Dayville/Monument is
ranked No. 19 in the state
and seeded third in the
tournament with an overall
record of 17-8; Crane, sec-
ond seed and ranked No.
21, has an overall record of
15-9.
During the season, the
Tigers beat Crane Jan. 30
at home, 49-35, and lost
37-46 in Crane on Jan. 17.
The Tigers had a slow
start in last Friday’s game,
and the scoring went back
and forth in the first quarter.
Dayville/Monument led
at halftime, 27-22.
The Tigers roared to life
in the second half, bringing
down rebounds and getting
control of loose balls.
When Sage Flower went
down with an injury at the
close of the second quar-
ter, others from the bench
picked up where he left off.
The Tigers pulled away
in the third quarter 47-25
and outshot Burnt River
16-9 to end the game.
