This is the first in a series of weekly Lenten services to
be held at area churches. A soup-and-bread lunch will be
from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., followed by a brief service.

education class will begin
next Monday at Grant Union
Junior-Senior High School in
the library.
Classes will be held on
Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday evenings for two
weeks. The ¿ rst class starts at
6 p.m., the rest at 6:30 p.m.,
and all classes will run two to
two and a half hours.
The course culminates
with a ¿ eld day live shoot at
9 a.m. Saturday, March 7.

Family dance at Senior Center
• 1-4 p.m., John Day Senior Center
People can dance or just listen to the music at the Se-
nior Center. The Up River Country Band will play, and
there will be coffee, punch and cookies. The cost is $5 for
couples, or $3 for singles. All ages are welcome.
Meet the author and book signing
• 1 and 3 p.m., The Corner Cup, John Day
Grant County author A.K. Moss will read excerpts and
sign copies of her new novel, “Unspoken.” Moss’ prior
poetry works include “Dear Charlie” and “Of Elk and

Seneca Bingo Fun Night
• 6-9 p.m., Seneca School gym
Doors open with a potato bar and concessions. The
event offers family fun for all ages and lots of great prizes
too. All proceeds go toward the Seneca PTA.

Healthy Together dinner in CC
• 5:30-7:30 p.m., Canyon City Community Hall
Oral health and pre-diabetes/diabetes will be the focus,
as Healthy Together Project holds a fun and informational
event. Get answers to questions like: “What do you mean
gum disease can damage my heart?” and “You mean I can
avoid diabetes?” Everyone is welcome. There will be din-
ner, child care and door prizes, and admission is free.

Forest tax workshop slated in Grant County

shop on tax issues for family
forestland owners is coming
up on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in
John Day.
The session will be from
12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Or-
egon State Forestry Depart-
ment conference room, 415
Patterson Bridge Road.
Tamara Cushing, OSU
Extension forestland tax and
business specialist, will be
the instructor.
The focus will be proper-
ty tax options, Oregon state
timber harvest and sever-
ance taxes, state and federal
income taxes, and sources
for professional assistance.
Experts note that wood-
land owners must deal with
several types of taxes, but
careful planning and educa-
tion about the legal options
available can reduce the
overall burden.
Through these work-
shop, owners can learn more
about their options and make
choices appropriate to their
situations.
Pre-registration is re-
quested by this Friday, Feb.
20, to ensure adequate hand-
out materials.
