City of John Day
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
Directs all functions and operations of the Public Works Department
including the construction, maintenance of the City streets, water and sewer
systems. Duties include planning, organizing and coordinating staffing,
budgeting, and reporting all activities of the department. Works under the
general direction of the City Manager. Supervises, instructs and assists
assigned crews in all aspects of the department including operation,
maintenance and construction projects. Desirable qualifications include
thorough knowledge of the modern principles and practices of Public Works.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of development,
construction of Public Works. Thorough knowledge of general management
principles and concepts. Considerable knowledge of the principles and
practices of public budgeting, finance reporting and personnel management.
Ability to plan projects and prepares related designs, estimates and
specifications. Ability to prepare cost estimates on municipal construction,
maintenance projects. Ability to work with other employees, agencies,
officials, committees, and the general public.
High school diploma or GED required. At least five years of experience in
professional engineering or public works administration which insures the
proceeding knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional training or college
courses in engineering, administration or public works. Any combination of
experience and training which insures the ability to perform the work may
substitute for the above. Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license and a
valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain them. Salary is $3,265 -$4,683 per
