PRAIRIE CITY – You
could tell it was February
when you came into the Hall
last week. The Valentine’s
decorations were on the
walls and the tables. Thanks
to those who had a part in
that. The ceramic center-
pieces were really cute.
This week, we will have
a special Valentine’s dinner,
so you’d better come. We
only had 69 names today, so
there is still room for you.
We finally got the Fire
Marshal’s occupancy no-
tice. We can have 114 at the
tables and over 200 if just
sitting in the chairs. Seems
reasonable.
Buzz, Bruce, Jim and Joe
did their usual bang-up job
of setting the tables. Then
Buzz and Jim made the
home deliveries.
Our volunteer servers
included Joann Phippen,
Sandi Rennels, Linda Boy-
er, Dusty Harris, and Donna
Adams. These servers, and
others, helped in the clean
up in the kitchen after-
wards, too. Pam had to run
the dishwasher due to the
absence of Assistant Cook
Helen, due to being overtak-
en by the local respiratory
crud. Get well soon, Helen,
along with lots of others in
the county.
Buzz led the Flag Salute
and Darrell Johnson asked
the blessing. The winner of
the $5 in trade donated by
Prairie Hardware & Gifts
was Margie Parker.
We indulged in orange
juice, orange Jell-O with
pears, taco soup with cheese,
fried spuds, corn bread and
a very moist chocolate cake
with a yummy topping.
The Blue Mountain Care
Center ladies – Lorna and
Brandi – brought Dorothy
Blasing, Lois Hill, Dollina
Humphreys, Robert Ridell,
and Gerry Pearl.
We went to the Ground
Hog Day supper on Mon-
day, Feb. 2. Saw lots of
people who could come to
senior dinner … Then on
Thursday, we went to Bak-
er and got good news about
Derrol’s dizziness: PT guy
is pretty sure that the crys-
tals in the inner ear are
where they are supposed
to be. The sensations that
Derrol has now are coming
from a body that has to be
retrained with eye and bal-
ance exercises. Seems to be
working. PTL.
In other news, the final
word has come that son
No. 2 will get the keys to
their new house before Val-
entine’s Day. Now that’s
a present and a half, huh?
Laurel is packing like mad.
An advance notice: there
will be an Evening of Enter-
tainment sponsored by Tal-
ents and Treasures in April.
Strings & Beyond are prac-
ticing diligently. And the
ensemble is working on the
Easter presentation. It will
be different. Then in June
will be a very interesting
presentation at the Canyon
City Cemetery – and I’m not
referring to why you usual-
ly go to the cemetery. So
watch for these announce-
ments so you can mark your
calendars accordingly.

ter it even to the end of the
earth …” – Isaiah4 8:20

MONUMENT – So, I have
a confession to make … I am
not a very organized person
DQG,DPDÀ\E\WKHVHDWRI
my-pants type person as well.
Yeah, I put on a pretty good
façade and fooled you all!
The reason I am confess-
ing this is because for the life
of me, I can’t seem to recall
where my paper with all the
info written about the events
of last week’s senior lunch.
So I apologize in advance if I
couldn’t recall all the info and
miss a few items. I’ve learned
my lesson though, I will now
carry a notebook and make
sure my husband knows ex-
actly where it is.
Our greeters last week for
our lunch were Bob Blakeslee,
Bodean Anderson, and Mar-
va Walker. Bob led the Flag
Salute and we had a special
guest, the Cowboy Chaplain,
who blessed the meal and his
lovely wife Sandy accompa-
nied him.
We also had Donna Camp-
bell’s sister and brother-in-
law join us for lunch.
We had a great meal of
open-faced roast beef sand-
wiches with mashed potatoes
and gravy. Along with that
we had carrots and cake. Our
hardworking cooks were Ter-
ry Cade and Carrie Jewell.
We had about 47 attend-
ees and three takeouts. Jimmy
Cole won the free meal and
Bob Yukawa won the Len’s
card. I’m sorry but I couldn’t
remember who won the Ches-
ter’s gift card. If you want to
get out and come out for a lit-
tle drive and meet some new
folks, we’d love to have you
join us for lunch! Monument
Senior Center lunch on Tues-
days at 12 noon.
This weather sure has got-
ten me confused if I wasn’t
already. I can’t make out what
to put on half the time before
I go outside. I also am won-
dering if we should trim and
prune our trees? I have so
much to learn living out here.
One of the new things I’ve
learned is canning fruit. That
sure was a long day and, boy,
it was a lot of work! I’m a lov-
er of the good ol’ slow cooker
as well. Having a nice meal
all ready to eat after coming
in from doing chores is awe-
some.
One thing I do miss is my
Korean food, my mommy’s
cooking. I try to make some
food that I’ve got, but it just
isn’t the same. Home cooked
food by your mother is the
best. Appreciate the time you
have with your parents and
enjoy a meal together.
“Children, obey your par-
ents in the Lord: for this is
right. Honour thy father and

the earth.” – Ephesians 6:1-3

JOHN DAY – Before I get
into the news I would like
to give a great big heartfelt
thank you to Ron Dowse
for covering the news for
me the last two weeks.
Thanks to him I got to go
out of town and visit with
several of my children
and grandchildren. Thanks
again, Ron.
Monday, Feb. 2, we had
beef hash, fruited Jell-O,
Judy’s great homemade
biscuits and topped it off
with homemade cookies for
dessert. Greeting us at the
desk were Billie Bullard
and Susan Fowle.
Kris Labhart and Karen
Bailey delivered 18 meals
and then eight frozen meals
for shut-ins. Our servers to-
day were from Blue Moun-
tain Hospital Auxiliary.
Karen led the flag salute
and Ron Dowse asked the
blessing.
Ron also did the an-
nouncing as Veanne was
home with the flu. All the
announcements were for
this week so will be over by
the time you read this, so I
won’t bore you.
We had a newcomer to-
day, Lisa Miller, here with
Gail Heising. Welcome,
Lisa.
Kris Labhart won the
Len’s gift certificate and
Jean Willey won the free
meal.
On Thursday, Feb. 5, we
had pork chops, mashed po-
tatoes, gravy, ambrosia sal-
ad, Normandy blend veg-
gies, rolls and then topped
it off with birthday cake,
donated by Grant County
Hospice and Driskell Chap-
el. It was baked by Ches-
ter’s bakery.
At the desk were Susan
Fowle and Billy Bullard.
Jim Spell delivered meals
locally and our new cook,
Shay, delivered to Mt. Ver-
non. Together they deliv-
ered 21 meals.
The entree was furnished
by Tootie Cernazanu in mem-
ory of her late husband, Jim.
'HQQLV 5H\QROGV OHG WKH ÀDJ
salute and Julie Reynolds
asked the blessing. Our servers
were from St. Thomas Episco-
pal Church.
Don Caldwell did the an-
nouncing as Veanne was still
off sick. Get well soon, Veanne.
Buz Harris won the Ches-
ter’s gift certificate, and Jan
Ellison won the lunch for
two at Valley View.
This Thursday, Feb. 12,
we will have chicken cordon
bleu and next Monday, Feb.
16, seafood fettuccini. Come
join us. Then stay to play
bingo. Bingo on Feb. 5 had
about 20 players and pretty
good pots, plus lots of fun,
fellowship, and snacks.

ed thought! O words with
