Crandell has published a new book, “The Weaver’s Tale: A Sto- ry of the Malheur River Country.” The Western romance is a contemporary tale of a cowboy, Tanner Greywolf, and a young widow, Sum- mer Jackson, brought to- gether against all odds. Greywolf is a worn- down cowhand who, while gathering lost cows, breaks a leg when his horse falls on him. Jackson comes to his aid and decides to hire him to help on the ranch she is struggling to man- age. Together, they begin an unforgettable journey, each seeking desperately needed healing. Crandell spent most of her life in Eastern Oregon – 16 years in the desert country of Malheur County. She was raised on a small ranch near Monument, on the North Fork of the John Day River, spending high- school years in Kimberly. She attended both elemen- tary and high school in Monument, and returned to Kimberly for a short time after she married. Her fa- ther taught school in Spray, Mitchell, Monument and Izee. A retired language arts teacher, Crandell has a mas- ter’s degree in English from Portland State University, and is the author of “Mer- ry-go-Round,” a memoir in prose, fiction and poetry.
