Pros tame Imbler Panthers

JOHN DAY – The Prospec-
tor basketball teams tamed the
Imbler Panthers last Saturday.
Grant Union student fans

night’s battles.
The Lady Prospectors domi-
nated for a 42-15 win, while the
Prospector boys clinched a 58-
55 win over Imbler.
The Grant Union girls hit

“Our goal is to win out
the rest of the league games,”

with a home game against
Union on Saturday.
The Lady Pros currently sit
at third in the Wapiti League,

at the Jan. 20-21 district tour-
nament in La Grande.
GU boys hustle for win
The Prospector boys had a
slow start against Imbler, but
made a good run to take the

They were ahead for much
of the second quarter, but the
Panthers crept up. With just
.8 seconds left in the half, the
score was tied, and Imbler
called a timeout.

Steve Speth said what fol-
lowed was a “well-executed
play.”
“They had their best player
(Trace VanCleave) coming off
of a double screen to catch and
shoot for a 3-point shot in the
corner,” Speth said. “We had it
defended – unfortunately, we
fouled him on the shot, and he
was able to make all three free-
throws to give them the 3-point
halftime lead.”

DAYVILLE – The bleachers at Dayville School
were packed last Friday as the Dayville/Monument
Tigers boys and girls teams faced the Crane Mus-
tangs for their second meeting in a week.
The Tiger boys came together for a balanced ef-
fort, defeating the Mustangs 49-35.
The Tigers kept Crane scoreless under heavy

while putting 10 points of their own on the board.

Dayville/Monument kept the scoreboard churn-
ing to claim a 29-14 lead at halftime. The Tigers
never looked back.

Union wrestling team took on
strong Burns and Crane teams
last Thursday as the Prospec-
tors hosted a duals tournament.
“These are very good
teams,” said Grant Union head
coach Andy Lusco. “Probably
two of the best in the district.”
Notable performances for
Grant Union came from An-
tonio Dancer who was 2-1 and
Clay Johnson, 2-0.
Grant Union fell to Crane
24-30, and Burns, 24-48.
“We have closed the gap
considerably on these two teams
from three seasons ago,” Lusco
said.
On Saturday, the Grant
Union wrestlers earned second
at the Irrigon meet.
“The kids wrestled tough
with Antonio Dancer and
Clay Johnson standing
out,” the coach said.
Grant Union junior high
wrestlers also competed at
the Jan. 29 duals meet against
Burns and Crane.
“Braden Spencer shined
with a 4-0 record,” Lusco said.
Drew Lusco, Roen Lang-
um, Ethan Moore and Antonio
Smith went 1-1 with Russell
Hodge going 1-2.
The junior high team also
traveled to Saturday’s Bak-
er Brawl, where Drew Lusco

shattered the State Champi-
onship qualifying score last
weekend with a high-energy
performance.
The team went beyond
the 60 points required to
move on to state compe-
tition, earning an overall

This will be the team’s
final performance until their
March 12 Spring Showcase.
“This is a high energy and
physically demanding rou-
tine that is fun to watch and
challenging for our danc-
ers,” Adair said.
