Meue­ niot. who is an ex-olficer of customs and a widower with two sons, courted a wealty girl named Jaetel who rejected him because he was poor. Meueniot then engaged in a number of robberies, and finally murdered an old priest and his servant. Having got some money, be renewed his suit, but the girl objected to the children. Meueniot thereupon stt fire to the girl's resi­ dence, the occupants of which had a narrow escape. Meuenion had not been detected in any of these crimes. After another interview W’th the girl, who then seemed to be willing to marry him. he smoth­ ered his eldest bov and finally shot and seriously injured the girl’s brother, who had forbidden the proposed marriage.
