We call attention to an article in one of our Baker City exchanges, referring to the county indebted- new of Harney county. It says: “Harney county is now in debt ♦30,000; at that rate in so new a county, in what condition will it be in a few more years etc.” We pre sume that the *,Ex.” mentioned did not know that 919,000 of that indebtedness is due to Grant county and the furniture, safes, etc., of our county cost 14.000, which makes ♦23,000 to begin with. Tbe King seduction suit cost tbe county ♦3,000, tbe Shirk and Page crimin al cases at least 12.600 and other necessary county expenses, and we have tbe 430,000 indebtedness. Something else to remember tbe taxes of '89 tbe first year of our counties existence were collected by Grant county. Baker county had better get out of the mud her self before trying to put Harney in the mire, our county taxes, since Hrmey has been a county, have not been so high as that of Baker by 5 mills, and Baker county is getting heavier in debt every day. Our counts io getting out of debt by reason of county script being bought in, and Harney county to day is financially bettei off than Baker, and baa more wealth. A. ROBBINS, <? Owing to the wet eoil comditions in western Oregon, melting snow and wet soil in eastern Oregon, spring seeding has generally been delayed. Some plowing has been done on the higher lands of west ern Oiegon andin parts of south ern Oregon. While the weather conditions have not been up tc the average, yet theV have been very favorable to the fall and winter sown grain which is invariably re ported to be in a most prosperous and promising condition. Consid erable growth has been inode dur ing the week, in the Willamette valley, especially, the soil is wet which retards spring work. In parts of western Oregon peach and apricot trees are in blossom, quince tree, showing leaves, berry bushes and shrubs are leafing, other fruit trees have swelling buds War mer weather with sunshine is need ed throughout tbe State. The sea son is slightly later than usual. The prosperous condition of the fall wheat the wet condition of the soil, the backward weather condition* all tend towards a bountiful btr vest.
