T he county division question is rising once more to the surface, and in a better shape than hitherto, the contention for county-seat be ing very properly eliminated. Dr. Gilham says, so we are informed, that under present conditions, he considers it best to leave the loca tion of the temporary county-seat with the Governor. A petition is in circulation now for signatures, and all the citizens by uniting together can give our re presentative what he is reported to- have asked for, a direct evidence of a united sentiment of the people concerned, either for or against the division of Grant, and formation of Harney county. At Cost. J. E. McKINMON now offers his goods AT COST, consisting of C anned G oods and many articles too numerous to mention. Now ¡ b the time to get the value of your money. Come and see. —At the sheriff’s sale on execu tion last Saturday the Phillips’ wool was bid in by G. W. Ander son. who refused afterwards to pay the purchase price, unless allowed to deduct therefrom the sum of ♦ 75 which he claimed the former sheriff'owed him for taking care of the wool. As the deputy-sheriff did not consider himself authorized to act as a referee in that matter, he refused to let Anderson have the wool, and it will be sold again. —It was rumored in Burns gen erally last week that religious ser vices would be held the Sabbath before Christmas day here. We have diligently endeavored to trace the rumor to a reliable source, this 1 week, in order to inform our read ers, but failed to learn of any other foundation than \ue presiding el der’s assertion that a pastor and his family would be sent here this year, if the financial conditions of the church were favorable by that time. /—D. L. Shirk and wife were in town Saturday and Sunday, on the return from Canyon City to Cat- low valley. Mrs. Shirk, an intelli gent, amiable lady, has been subject to a severe form of eye-trouble that threatens loss of sight, since last year, and the malady during the past two months has assumed such alarming symptoms, that Mr Shirk will at once proceed to San Fran cisco to place the case in the care of a skillful occulist. Little Joe’s hand which had its thumb ampu tated a couple of weeks since, is healing in good shape. Mr. Shirk is evidently a man of intense feel ing, and the terrible ordeal through which he has just passed, has left him mentally almost prostrated. XOIITH GltANT COl'NTY SEWS. Canyon City News: Mumpe ae- combanied by lung fever prevails to an alarming extent about Prairie City and the upper valley. T. A. McKinnon, son, and son-in- law passed through town 10th hint, on their way to the Strawberry mills with three four-horse wagons, loaded with Harney valley wheat. Lakeview Examiner: F. A. Cogs well and Miss Emma Sears, both of Linkville, Or., were married Nev, 25th. We nominate Judge Wilshire for mayor when Lakeview is incorpor ated. John L. Hampton of Paisley, and wife, who have been visiting rela tives at Willow Ranch, returned home last week. The Paisley flouring mill has shut down after a steady two months run. BURNS ADVERTISEMENTS.
