In case impending hostilities
assume the proportions that is
indicated in Europe it is said that
America will have to supply the
foodstuffs. That may lead to
difficulty for this country as it
may be regarded as an act that
doesnot conform to neutrality to
supply a belligerent country with
the sinews of war. Japan, an
ally of England, might object to
the landing of American goods
in German ports. It will present
a situation in this country that
will call for the rarest and finest
exercise of statesmanship.- Blue
Mt. Eagle.
An exchange that has been
figuring on the hard times has
come to the conclusion that they
are caused by the fact that most
people buy more than tin y pro
duce. It says: "We let our
timber rot and buy fencing; we
throw away our ashes and buy
soap; we give away our hides and
buy rope; we raise dogs and buy
hogs; we let our manure go to
waste and buy guano; we grow
weeds and buy vegetables and
brooms; we catch 5 cent fish with
a $4 rod; we build school houseB
and send our children olf to
be educted; and lastly we send
our boys out with a $40 gun and
a $10 dog to hunt for 10 cent
birds."
