Sev eral local firms have seasonable goods now on display and one should look over the advertise ments each week to get all there is in the paper. Mr.s. H. B. Mace again occupies her home in Burns after a year on the ranches. She moved in this week, the Harrisons, who had occupied the residence giv ing up possession Monday. Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Murray are stopping at the Holland home for the present but will leave about the first of next month for Drewsey where Dr. Harrison is now located. Frederico Pico, a Mexican, who was lost the fore part of last December in the Steens Mountain section while returning from Andrews, was frozen to death. His body was found recently frozen, with the coat, hat and sIhk-s missing. He was riding a horse belonging toChino Berdugo but he either got off the animal or fell, as it was thought he was intoxicted, and wandered away. Justice Solomon of Catlow held an inquest and the body was re moved to Andrews for burial. The ranch house on what is known as the Mace place on the island belonging to the P. L. S. Co., was completely destroyed by fire Wednesday night with all its contents. The fire was dis covered in the roof about six o'clock and it seems the men were out at work, therefore it I took some time to reach the house and the fire had gained such t it was impossible the I. Claud Smyth and wife took their departure Sunday morning for Portlagd where Claud will receive treatment for the eye that was badly injured recently from being struck with a whip lash. Scott and Pete Haley were up from their home near Malheur lake Wednesday. Pete says they have lots of water down there already and it would indicate it will be much higher later. He also says they have lots of game birds but didn't dare shoot. Brown this week, having brought over the little daughter of her brother George to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. Dr. Griffith perform ed the operation which was suc cessful. Austin Goodman is ready to grind grain and has a building in which it may lie stored by farmers at any time. He will grind one day each week and farmers may store their grain any day ami get it when con venient. He is prepared to take grain as pay tor grinding at the market price. Camp home during the week and has finally consented to be a candidate for commission er on the republican ticket at the primaries. Mr. Robins is con sidered one of the substantial business men of this county and a careful business man of good judgment. He would make a conscientious officer should he be elected. . y The Spokane Daily Chronicle of March 20 contains a picture of Clyde Wittenhiller and an ac count of his having won the championship gold medal at the Blair Business College of that place last week. The medul is awarded annually for the type writing speed contest and Clyde averaged 60 words net a minute for 30 minutes. He was also presented with his diploma from the short hand department of the same institution. Clyde has tak en up his duties as stenographer in his father's office in this city, having arrived Sunday from Spokane. j. L Gault of the First National Bank of this city was agreeably surprised last Saturday after noon when Earl Conser. cashier of the First National Bank of Paisley, dropped in to see him. Mr. Conser is a brother to Mrs. Gault and had not informed any one of his intended visit, in fact he did not knuw he was coming until a few minutes before he started. Mr. Conser states that his section is on the eve of promis ing development and will be a very prosperous community when the irrigation project is complet ed and the land cultivated as it is possible. Frank Johnson, representative of the Oregon & Western Coloni zation Co., arrived here Sunday from Prineville to meet a re presentative of a colonization concern who had been sent to this section to look at land. He was accompanied over by his wife, also Mrs. Culp, who comes to spend the summer with re latives, Mrs. M. R. Biggs, who resided here for many years and is well acquainted with many old time residents of this place. Mrs. Biggs was formerly Laura Stonclift and spent a most en joyable time with her many old friends while here. Clyde Her came oyer with the again taken up his ' office after Spokane.
