Married At the Newell home near Dog Mountain, DeVere Newell and Miss Rose Crowley, Justice I, S. Tyler performing the ceremony. Both are native born Harney county young peo ple and quite well known. Anyone wanting good solid winter cabbage can get it from Frank King at 2 cents per pound delivered at Burns. Mrs. Roy Dwyer was operated on last Thursday for appendicitis. Dr. Griffith performing the opera tion. She is recovering nicely. John Darsey and family left Monday for their home at West fall after a pleasant visit with relatives and friends here. Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Babbidge have moved to their alfalfa farm in the Valley View section where they will make their permanent home. Everyone has something for which to be thankful, and especi ally so, if they purchase one of those hats at Clingan's Thanks giving sale next week. Tip Stoy and wife came in from their Crane Creek home this week, the latter remaining in town for a visit with relatives and friends. A recent trip in the country by the writer, with his gun, was a disappointment that was rather gratifying too. In an auto ride of some 20 miles he saw only three rabbits. The news dispatches say that Pinchot is mustering his follow ers at the Conservation congress to try to continue his "bottle up" policies, but he may be doomed to disappointment Mrs. Millar opens a moat com plete line of practical and season able millinery including all the newest ideas and novelties. At the usual stand with I. Schwartz in the Masonic Building. The ladies of this vicinity are invited to call at once. Alex Sweek of Portland, a brother to C. A. Sweek of this city, has been appointed Minister to Siam, but dispatches state there are protests going in to Washington against his con firmation. The Clay Clemens sawmill is now at its new location and is prepared to fill any order with rough or dressed lumber, also fir lumber; buck teeth and any special order given prompt at tention. 32. A Wisconsin man, in charge of the poultry at the college of that state, has said that hens need amusement to make them lay. Some of our citizens are thinking seriously of buying Victrolas or hiring an orchestra for their hens as eggs are mighty scarce. A letter from Mrs. Byrd states that II. C. LevenB and wife and C. B. McConnell expects to come back to Burns the fore part of next week coming on the same car with Sam Mothershead and J. J. Donegan. Mrs. Byrd and the "flock" will not be abla to leave Portland until about the middle of next month. Miss Cowgill, of the Harney county high school, is assisting Mrs. Rembold in staging the "Prince of Pillsen" which will be given under the auspices of the Ladies Library Club during the holiday period for a library benefit. Miss Cowgill has charge of the dancing which will ac company some of the choruses. Contractor L. Woldenberg of the Blue Mt Stage Line is going to make a special effort for the holiday rush of mail, having brought in an extra relay of horses which will be stationed here for emergencies.
