    UTEST DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE NOTES
(From Our Portland Correspondent)
From all indications Oregon
Will make a better showing in
the Eastern Land Shows this
year than eter before. The Ore
gon State Immigration Commis
sion, with headquarters at the
Commercial Club, Portland. 8
urging commercial bodies of the
state, as well as individuals, to
make suitable exhibits which
will be included in the state din
play with no expense save that
of gathering the specimens and
taking them to the depot, the
will be shipped from the nearest
railroad point to Portland, as
sembled in a general exhibit and
will be sent east by the commis
sion but each organization or
grower will receive full credit for
the products entered.
A circular is now being issued
by the commission giving direc
tions for gathering and shipping
the exhibits, Attention is called
to the need for careful packing,
the selection of only the best
specimens and advice and assist
ance is offered. It is pointed out
that the co-opera tiod of all parts
of the state is necessary in order
that the agricultural wealth of
Oregon may be shown to the best
advantage and that success may
be attained in competition for
prises with the exhibits made l y
other states. It is suggested
that the decision to choose ex
hibits for this purpose should be
made early in the season and
that a few choice specimen ts
from each community are much
better to show the East what
Oregon can grow than a large
quantity of sample grains, fruits
and vegetables of mediocre
quality.
Homesteaders in Central Ore
gon are making good, declares
President Joseph Young, of the
Hill lines in Oregon, who lately
accompanied Louis W. Hill, of
the Great Northern, on an ex
tended tour of the State. Crop
conditions are said to be excellent
with prospects of a big yield.
Development work of all kinds
is going ahead well and new
settlers are coming in from the
East and establishing themselves.
Students of forestry at the
Oregon Agricultural College are
enlisting in practical work this
Summer and are gaining experi
ence in the service of the Co vern
ment, or of private timber com
panies, in patroling timber hold
ings. Vacations spent in this
way are profitable not only in a
financial way but give the stud
ent a practical working knowledge
of the business.
Improved plans for marketing

northwestern districts have just

To handle soft dough for rolling and
cutting, take only a small amount on
the board at a time.
When very aoft dough Is to be rolled
and cut, alwayi add a little baking pow
der to flour used on the molding board
and the rolling pin, aa the flour alone
will toughen the dough.
To bake cookie use a sheet or a shal

To bake Tea Cakes alwayi use the slow
oven until the cakaa have doubled in

they baked too quickly.
K C Baking Powder ia excellent for
cookies. It ia not alwaya possible to
have enough oven, room or enough shal
low pans to bake all the cookies at one
time. With K C it la perfectly aafa to
mix aa much batter aa you wish and
bake aa fast aa convenient The last
cookies baked will be equally as nice aa
tne first, due to the nature of K C Bak
ing Powder.
K C ia so made that it gives two dis
tinct raises one out of tha oven and
one In the oven. This double raise alio we
food to remain out of tha oven for houra
and still be light when baked and it also
makes the food much lighter than tha
old fashioned baking powder. Test this
statement by making your favorite cako
with K C and note the difference in Un,
size of It when baked.
