The following resolution.; were adopted at the meeting of the farmers and Housewives oi ttar- ney County attending the Short Course in Burns, on Saturdaj March 1st. 1918: Whereas. The f a r m e r s of Harney County who have bet n so fortunate as to be present In Burns the past week and wit- neased the practical instruction imparted by Professors Scudder and Potter, both verbally and by illustration; also the house wives of the county and their Notice is hereby given that the daughters who have been under the instruction of Mrs. Calvin and Miss Irwin, have derived an incalculable benefit form the ex perience, a benefit that will be felt on every farm in every part of Harney County. Resolved, That we hereby express our keen appreciation of the visit of these accomplished teachers from the Oregon Agri- cultural College and heartily com mend the spirit displayed by them and by the authorities of the College in the worthy aim of carrying needed information to the doors of the farmers, to the end that Agriculture may be made profitable, may become cer tain in its results and enticing to those engaged in it and to the youths who look to it as a future business; also for the other pleas ing purpose of making home life more pleasant, more healthful and less expensive. RESOLVED, That our thanks are also extended to the people of Burns for the kind and hospi table manner in which they have provided for the accomodation of the large crowd of visitors; to Hon. Wm. Hanley for throwing open his suburban home to our free use; to the managers of the Tonawama building for its use; to the Burns Band and to the singers for their fine entertain ment and to the press of the city for its efforts in promoting and reporting this great gather ing. Resolved, That we sincerely hope this kind of instruction w ill be continued and that such Short Courses as this will become an nual events, to be held at such times of year as will insure the largest attendance with the leasl expense and inconvenience to those participating and the least trouble to their entertainers. Rhodes of Drewsey: Whereas, The importance of the Agricultural and Domestic Science courses in the Harney County High School and their re lation to the advancement and development of Barney County being fully realized since wit nessing the profitable results ot the short course during the past week, and Whereas, The present quar ters of the High School are in adequate and lack proper facili ties for laboratory and demon stration work, as well as comfor table class rooms, this being dis closed upon a visit to the present T building by I farmers attending the short course during the week be it r Rssolved, That we are hesrt il in favor of and hereby recom mend that the authorities at once prepare to erect a suitable High Seh, Kl Building of ample enpa c i ) I' v Agriculture, Domestic Science nl the general educa tional lines carried on by the school, that it may be profitable to the increased numbers that are to take advantage of it in the immediate future, and a credit to Harney County. Ladies' Library Club. (Communicated) The second meeting of the I'Ybruary Croup of the Indies Library Club was at the home of Miss lyncher, Feb. 22nd 1913. General subject: "Women of tilth Century." Mrs. Julian Byrd presented her subject "Women in the Profession" in an exhaustive paper ranging through medicine, law, theology, literature, art and music, inter spersed with delightful sketches of the pioneer days of such wo men as Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, Florence Nightengale, Clara Barton, Lucretia Mott, Catharine Beecher Stowe, Rosa Bonheur. George Elliott, Adeline Patti. and Mile. Chaminade. Mrs. Byrd closed her delightful paper by expressing the thought that each day sees new achievements by woman who is slowly but surely taking her place by the side of her brothers. Mrs. G. A. Rembold gave The Flatterer, by Chaminade. Mrs. Charles Rohn wrote in a pleasing manner on 'The Eman cipation of Woman." covering the life work of pioneers in the woman suffrage cause such wo men as Susan B. Anthony, Eliza beth Cady Stanton.
