Miss Georgie Ellis, who has been teaching in Washington, is home to spend the vacation period with her mother and brother. She is looking quite well and her many friends are glad to welcome her. Beery who is returning to his work on a big irrigation project. Francis Griffin got away from the guards who were taking him to the asylum last week. He made his escape at Bend but the next morning ho flagged the train down the canyon and when he was taken on board his guard was there to meet him. Prof. M. E. Peck, arrived here last Monday in company with his wife and they will spend a greater part of the summer in this section. Guy Dickenson was arrested and brought to this city last Sat urday by Sheriff Richardson, charged with larceny from the house of Harry Carry, A search warrant was placed in the sheriffs bands and ho found the articles in the possession of Dick enson. The prisoner waived ex amination and was placed under $250 bond which was furnished by his sister nnd mother. J. C. Dodson, who was promi nent in closing the deal for the purchase of the Lake Shoro lands nt the south end of Sunset lake, informs ua that ho will go to Al turas, tomorrow to file tho plats of tho tracts, where ho will re ceive tho final papers from Rich ard Wilder, of Portland, who is ono of tho main money interests in tho company. Miss Nina Wiseman nrrived homo Inst Friday ovetiing from Eugene where bIio has been at tending the State University for tho past year. She will spend the vacation period with homo folks. Ludwig Johnson arrived homo Wednesday evening from his va cation trip to Portlnnd and other outside points. He hns a very enjoyable time nnd during his absence bought a new tenor saxaphonc which ho will play in the Tonawama band and will also be a valuable addition to the Tonawama orchestra. W. G. Howell, the Portland capitalist who has large interests in this county, arrived hero Thursday evening. Hois accom panied by Mr. D. A. Stokes. The party went down to the hikes this morning to look over the country. Mr. Howell did not state as to what development or improvements ho had in view at his new town of Wellington. Tho Tonnwama band gave a delightful open air concert on the street last Wednesday in front of the Orphcum theatre where Mr. Fellows very gener ously provided electric lights. It was enjoyed by the largo crowd that gathered on the street and these concerts will bo looked forwnrd to with pleasure in tho future. A. II. Curry, mail contractor from Harrimnn to Andrews, was in tho city during tho week at tending to some business. Mr. Curry reports crop prospects fine in that section and everything prosperous. He says the roads need more nttention in that dis trict, a few culverts being nec essary to put the roads in shtfyo for all times of year. At pro sent considerable ropair work has to be dono every spring that could be avoided if culverts wore put in to carry off tho flood water caused by tho melting snow m spring. Tho harness matineo and band concert last Sunday afternoon was enjoyed by a nico crowd of people. Tho Tonawama band made a good impression with somo lively music nnd tho horses performed quite satisfactorily. Tho first raco was between thrco green ones nnd they made tho mile in less than 3 minutes. Tho second raco was between Bill Hanloy and Sidney Wilkes. They traveled only half milo heats but mado good time. Tho band was somowhat handicapped in not having somo of tho players out. Somo of tho boys could not bo out and tho vacancy was re gretted by tho leader but they gave some good music neverthe less and will bo an attraction in future at all their public performances.
