Continued cool and inclement
weather has delayed the much
talked of Clean-up Day. This
should not dampen the enthusi
asm, however, for the necessity
of the movement still exists. It
iH no knock" on n town to an
nounce thnt tho citizens aro going
to (ombinein a general individual
nnd public renovation of the
city. On tho contrary it proves
a progressive, wide-awake spirit
Njund interest, and shows that we
intend to keep right up to the
standards of other communities
as to appearance and in safe
guarding our natural healthful
conditions.
All will agree that all gurbage
and accumulated waste matter
should bo removed. First, be
cause it will improve tho appear
ance of our city. Many strangers
will visit Burns this summer and
will bo influenced by the impres
sions they receive in viewing
our general appearance of thrift.
Second, the removal of dry
weeds, paper and combustible
matter will greatly reduce the
fire Jiazard, and third, but most
important, will bo tho improved
sanitary condition lo be brought
nbout und insured by clearing
away nil decayed and ouensiye
garbage, which is a constant
menace to lioalth.
Wo. have an ordinance making
the accumulation of garbage u
nuisuncc, requiring iLs abate
ment by its removal by each in
dividual property owner from his
premises and abutting streets,
and providing adequate punish
ment for itH violation. The Mayor
has declared that this ordinance
must be enforced. Further nc-
tion should not bo necessnry as
each property owner should show
his civic pride and take care of
his own premises. Then the pub
lic will gladly join in putting on
the finishing touches and tak
ing care of the public grounds,
and vacant properties and ad
joining streets.
As announced elsewhere, Fri
day, May 10th, is the date for
the big public frolic. Everybody

ample, and clean up your own
yards prior to that date, and
then bo ready lojoin the "white
