SCHOOLS ARE CROWDI:!).
The schools of the city opened
last Monday with a large atten
dance and still many families out
on the farms to come in later.
The public school is too crowded
now and with more to como tho
board is arranging for an addi
tional room. They have spoken
to the management of this paper
regarding the possibilities of
securing tho north store room in
the new Times-Herald building
when completed. This room can
be in readiness by Nov. 1. An
additional teacher has already
been placed in tho school to as
sist Miss Susie Smith, the two
occupying the same room.
The high school opened with
43 and this attendance will be
largely increased in a short time
UNFAIR TREATMENT AT l'RAIKlE-
Tho Times-Herald believes in
being "a good sport" and taking
defeat without a "holler", but
from renorts of our local ball!
team Prairie City didn't treat us
right in tho tournament of last
week. Our team was not given
a fnir deal, the umpire being de
cidedly partial and rank in his
decissions and Prairie's team was
made up largely of imported
material according to reports.
Tho Times-Herald had expected
somo facts from the Canyon
Kagle to bear out tho statements
of our home boys, but it had no
thing to say other than that our
team is made up of ball players
and gentlemen. Burns treated
the Prairie team on the square
when it was here last season and
it was hoped the games last week
would result in their coming over
here again, but it doesn't lookl
irood. therefore there will not'
likely be any games this reason.
V. F. Hissner and wife left
Thursday for Portland. Mr.
Hissner goes to secure tho nec
essary fixtures for his pool rooms
and cigar business which he will
open in his building now under
'repair, lie will uo ausentsome
ten days. Mrs. Hissner expects
i to visit a fowl weeks before re
i turning.
