The State Land Board has fin ished n trip through the Lake view region, inspecting lands there under state control, and upon their return members of the Board expressed themself as en thusiastic over the future pros pects of that section of tho state In fact they were surprised that any public land remained in that part of Oregon. Colonist rates to Oregon will again be in effect this Fall, from September 15 to October 15, on a basis of $25 from St. Paul and tho Missouri river to any point in this state or $33 from Chicago, Railroad traffic officials expect there will be a heavy movement to the Pacific Slope this fall, for there is a heavy inquiry already about the rates.- forests. R.MOTIi, llurns, Oregon That central Oregon will soon become as famous for its hog raising as it has been in the past for its cattle and sheep, is the opinion of F. A. Freeman, cash ier of the Lumbermen's National bank, who has returned from a trip to that section. Mr. Free man was one of the Portland party who assisted in the organ ization of tho central Oregon development league last week. He returned to Portland enthusi astic over the resources of the central Oregon empire, predict ing the rapid development of the country. "While the opening and sale of the central Oregon wagon road grant lands is taking money out of the banks at present and is working to their temporary dis advantage, the contral Oregon bankers realize that the effect will be to the great future ad vantage," said Mr. Freeman. "These lands have been with held from settlement, thereby retarding the development in a great many ways. It has proved a bar to irrigation projects as well as a general settlement nnd cultivation. "There is a tendency towards revolution of the livestock indus try; instead of conducting it in the old way by using wide open ranges and driving the stock many miles to market, the busi ness is being put on a modern and entirely different basis. Railroad shipping facilities now provided will make the industry even more substantial, and every influence is in favor of a greater livestock development. It means better livestock and better dev elopment. It means better live stock and greater profit "The great wealth of water available for irrigation as it is applied to the land increases the population of crops in a remark able way. Much land which can not bo irrigated is being made highly profitable by dry farming methods and large areas arc be ing broken to the plow. Alfalfa and wheat raised on irrigated lands and field peas and wheat on dry farming sections afford a great profit in hog raising. "This industry is now being developed commercially and its possibilities are enormous. Hogs raised on alfalfa or field peas and hardened on wheat make a quality of pork second to none. "One of the impressive things about the trip to central Oregon was the evidence of the cordial relations between tho people and the , transportation companies. That the people appreciate the' magnitude of the railroad pro jects which have involved tho ex penditure of over $23,000,000 is evidenced. A 'pull together spirit resulted from tho organ ization of the central Oregon de velopment league among the rep resentatives of towns that had hitherto shown evidence of jeul onsy. It was made evident that all central Oregon towns in tho futuro will work for a common subject, and that whatever riv alry exists will bo of a friendly sort. "Central Oregon scenery will become famous tho world over when tho country is better known. It embraces nil tho beauties of mountains and plains with canyons, gorges, vallies and NOTICE FOR I'UBMCATION UNIl Kll HTATTH LAND OKKII'K, llurtia, OrtKou, Jun I J, mil Kulica In hereby ulrmi that CliarlraK.
