INDUSTRIAL NOTES.
Portland Corcapondont
Great benefit is expected to
result to Interior Oregon from
tho selection during the past
week of nn experiment site in
Harney County near Burnn.
Tho location was picked by ex
perts from tho Oregon Agricul
tural College and a track of 00
acres was selected. A capable
man from tho college will be
placed in charge and soil pro
blems of tho interior will be
solved. Proper dry fanning
methods will be shown and the
station will servo as a nucleus
for n number of other experimen
tal farms throughout Harney
County, Later it is hoped others
will bo established in Eastern
Oregon.
The Pacific Highway Conven
tion will be held in Portland
August 4 and 5 and arrangements
will be made by the Portland
Automobile Club and representa
tives from every prominent city
on the Coast nro'expectcd to at
tend. A number of nutomobil
ists will come down in their cars
from Seattle. Sonio good work
may be expected for good roads
as tho result of this convention
and particularly for the great
highway projected along the
coast line from Canada to Mex
ico. That the whole state will be
represented in framing proposed
good roads legislation is assured
now that Governor West has
named a commission of promin
ent men from all parts of Ore
gon to assist in the work. It is
believed this will prevent a Hood
of hasty legislation at the next
election and will give the entire
state just what is needed for
highway betterments.
Surveys of the mouth of the
Columbia River, completed dur
ing the past week, are expected
to show an increased depth of
the ship channel at the river's
mouth. A gaip of 18 inches, or
a total depth of 27.5 feef, is
unofficially reported. The mea
surements just made show that
the sweep of the river current
and the increasing deptli demon
states the value of the jetty work
at the mouth of the river.
Sprains require careful treat
ment Keep quiet and apply
Chamberlain's Liniment freely.
It will remove the soreness and
quickly restore the" parts to a
healthy condition. For sale by
all good Dealers.
Happiest flrl In Lincoln.
A Lincoln, Neb., girl writes,
"I had been ailing for some time
with chronic constipation and
stomach trouble. I began taking
Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver
Tablets and in three days I was
able to be up and got better right
along. I am the proudest girl in
Lincoln to find such a good medi
cine." For sale by all good
Dealers.
