INDUSTRIAL NOTES. (Portland Correspondence.) This Is farmer's week nt the Oretron Affriculturnl CoIIoro and thoro is n largo nttendnnco of thoso interested in nRriculturnl problems. Lectures and demon strntions of tho greatest valuo to farmors aro being givon. Tlicse cover stockraising, dairying, hor ticulture, intensivo farming, and practically every branch of tho industry. Tho attendance is much larger than during tho special short courses of former years and great interest is shown by farmers from all parts of the state. Central Oregon will hear tho locomotive whistlo for tho first time this summer. Operation of tho Oregon Trunk will probably bo commenced to Madras early in March and somowhat Inter tho Deschutes railroad will run trains to Redmond. Thoso now lines will mark tho beginning of a now era of settlement for the whole region east of tho Cascade moun tains. Tho formation of a syndicate to clear logged-oil lands of south west Washington and place thorn on tho market is a step that might bo followed with profit on this side of tho Columbia river. These lands onco cleared, nro among tho most valuable for di versified farming, fruit growing and dairying. To put them to uso is to make a great addition to the wealth of the state. Two additional salmon hatch eries on the lower Columbia river aro provided for in tho bill passed this week by tho United States Senate, appropriating $50,000 for the purpose. If this measure passes the house it will mean a great deal to the salmon industry of the northwest, add ing largely to tho wealth taken annually from the Columbia and its tributaries. NEW CLUUBINQ PROPOSITION We have arranged to oiler in connection with this paper, the new monthly farm magazine just started at Lincoln, Nebraska, by Prof. H. W. Campbell and devot ed to the subject of how to farm in the dry country and how to get best results from soil tillage under normal conditions. This Paper is Campbell's Scientific Farmer and we offer it clubbed with The Times-Terald both for 2.50 per year cash. Prof. Camp bells' new paper is a monthly, chock full of good things, the only paper of its kind in the world, and it embodies the re sults of the editor's many years of painstaking investigation of the soil tillage proposition.
