ceived a letter from George in
which he states ho had been se
lected as one qf tho competitors
in the mile run at tho inter-class
held on Friday of last week at
Berkley. George seems to havo
developed into a first class

put in place. This is quite a con

A government reservoir pro
ject capable of irrigating between
four and five thousand acres of
vacant, unsurvoyed government
land in this county has been par
tially completed and parties in
terested will give tho right men
with capital a good proposition
to take up tho matter and push
it to completion. This must bo

Died In this city Sunday,
Nov. 6, Mrs. Harry McCluro,
aged 40 years. Deceased had
been suffering from heart trouble
for somo timo and was hero un
der tho caro of physicians. Sho
leaves besides her husband six
children. Mrs. McClure was a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, W. E.
Alberson and had resided in this
county for many years whore she
had many friends. Tho funeral
was held in Harney Monday.
Tho bereaved relatives havo tho
sympathy of a wido circle of
friends.
Died At tho family residenco
near Laweu on Tuesday, Novem
ber 8th, Mr. Isak West ago G5
years, after an illuess of four
days with pneumonia. Eleven
years ago ho camo with his wife
and two sons from Finland. Thoy
lived for a whilo in Seattle, Wash
ington. About six months ago
thoy camo to Harney county and
took up land near Lawen. Tho
deceased was buried Friday
morning in tho Burns cemetery,

decended upon us in unrestricted
measure, but overflow and

and bounty of God.

with tho rest of tho world. In
all essential matters our relations
with other people are harmonious
with nn over growing reality of
friendliness and depth of recog
nition of mutual dependence. It
is especially to bo noted that dur
ing,tho last year great progress
has been achieved in the cause
of arbitration and tho peaceful
settlement of international dis
putes. "Now, therefore I, William
Howard Taft, President of tho
United States of America, in ac
cordance with the wise custom
of the Civil Magistrate since tho
