A sevcro storm and freeze in Utah and the Missouri River sec tions has destroyed the fruit Wo have- been particularly for tunate in this respect and so far no damaging weather has caused alarm. It is to bo hoped a good showing may be made in all lines since tho Hill railroad desires a car load of Harney county products this fall to as sist in advertising this great sec tion. Monday, May 9th and hold Big Meeting. The Burns commercial Club is in receipt of a letter from Tom Richardson, manager of the Portland Commercial Club and head of the Oregon Development League that has brandies iKnt- lnrt lttmi StlirtO 11 every county of the state stating) he would visit liurns cany mi May. Mr. Richardson will leave Prineville on May G and the local club has arranged for a rousing booster meeting to be held in Burns on Monday evening, May 9. Tom Richardson has done won- ders toward attracting settlers l and capital to Oregon in the last few years and his efTorts are ap preciated in every community where his influence has reached. We have tried to arrange for him to visit this section before but his time was so taken up it was impossible. He is a "live wire" who readily sees opportun ities and strikes from the should er. The Harney country is one that will have particular attract ion for this energetic hustler and we will reap benefits from his visit. The Burns Commercial Club will have all arrangements completed for tho meeting on Monday evening, May 9 and it is hoped to get a large number of our neighbors to join in tho meeting. We shall miss our op portunity if we fail to give Mr. Richardson a big turn out as he is one to create enthusiasm and interest in bringing our great resources and opportunities to the front TOOK HER OWN LIFE. A most distressing tragedy oc curred at the homes of Clyde and Van Embree just south of Wright's Point in Sunset last Sunday evening, when their sis ter, Mrs. W. W. Sellers, took her own life by shooting herself with a 32-calibre revolver. Continued ill health was the cause of the rash act, although she was im proving. S,he and her mother were occupying a tent as a slecn- inor anartment which was nitched near Van's house and Mrs. Sellers had gone out there in the after- noon to lie down. The boys were absent during the afternoon but( came in about 5 o'clock. A little A SWELL DRESSER Can Examine the very latest Spring and Summer Lines All New in the very Fanciest Scotch Samples Shirts and all other articles for Ladies and Gentlemen The Only Place SCHENK BROS. Tho fatal shot was fired about C o'clock as Van and his mother heard it, but as tho weapon was under tho cover on tho bed it was mufiled and thoy thought tho report camo from a distance. It was about two hours later that her mother found tho still warm body in tho bed and called tho boys. They carried her into the house and it was some time bo foro they discovered tho blood. Mrs. Sellers had threatened self destruction before and it was in tho hope of benefiting her health that sho and her mother camo out from Dallas several weeks ago. Tho pistol had been in one houso and tho cartridges in tho other and it was not known sho had discovered whero the ammu nition was. Tho shot was fired into tho heart. Dr. Geary, county coroner, went down Monday morning and held an inquest. Tho body was embalmed and the mother and two brothers left Thursday morning with tho remains for Dallas where tho husband, father and other relatives are. Tho deceased was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T. V. B. Embreo and was a nativo of this state having been born in Dallas and was 30 years old. Sho leaves besides her husband, ono child, a boy five years old, hor parents and brothers and sisters. Dr. Embreo and family lived in this valley for a number of years and Alice, tho deceased had many fiends and former school mates here. It was a most sad ending of a life and the bereaved rela tives have tho deep sympathy of many friends. WAR CONCERT MAY 17 AND 18. The definito dato for the "War Concert" to be given by the Ladies' Afternoon Club as a lib rary and town clock benefit has been made May 17 and 18 at the Presbyterian church. Two en tertainments will be given in order to permit all to attend. The army supper has been dispensed with and instead home made candy, pop corn, ice cream, cake and doughnuts and coffee will be served by the ladies in tents on the lawn. Rehearsals have been in pro gress during the past week and a very enjoyable program is be ing arranged. The old time war songs and choruses will form the gseater part of the numbers. SUNDAY SERVICES.
