i . Out ol the Cllngcr Jar. A sure way to save money, don't spend it. Many n nut is not wlmt it wns cracked up to be. A horse may know a good bit without n coIIoro education. One of the surest ways to lose a friend is to lend him money. Anti-fat remedies are seldom needed by tho man who leans on hope. It is quite useless to toll tho goat not to butt in; he will do it anyway. How can wc tell whether a resolution is good or not till after wo have broken it? "It was all over in a minute," might refer to a railway accident or to a wedding. There are strong points of similarity between a football rush and a bargain-counter rush. In these times of high prices everybody has to pay. Even the oyster is compelled to shell out Speaking of home remedies, the "switch" of our grandfathers was a pretty good remedy for quite a long list of juvenile dis orders. Ono swallow docs not make a summer, but a dozen or so in a black bottle are sufficient to pro duce a great change in tempera ture. We are told that blasts from a ram's horn knocked down the walls of Jericho, and we have seen a blast from a ram's horn knock down a man. The ox knoweth his owner and the ass his master's crib, but there are any number of men who do not know when to quit when they have told all they know. Tender-hearted folks may suc ceed in getting the rod banished from the schools, but they will never bo able to make the rail roads give up their switches. Farm Journal. The mighty power of the Uni ted States under the mistaken policy known as Pinchotism, is placed in the hands of a vast offi cial corps "of conservation," at work in our newer states, "where public land remains, to obstruct settlement and bluff settlers out of the country. All possible ob stacles are thrown in the way; homesteaders are pounced upon, accused, and driven off. An im mense bureau, maintaining hun dreds of officials in Oregon alone, is actually in the business of driving out the newcomers whom our promotion clubs and associa tions are inviting and trying to settle in the state. The poetic gentlemen at the head of this business of "conservation" evi dently wish the winds to contin ue to sigh through the forests with no vulgar ear to hear them, and our waterfalls to go on with their roar, as ever since tho morning stars first sang together, hearing no sound save their own dashings.
