The Prineville Land & Live
stock Company, of Muddy, sold
a lot of cows last week to the
Portland Union Stockyards at
the phenomenal prices of $4.75
and $1.85. This is the record
price on cows, but it does not by
any means indicate the market
It means that the Muddy com
pany had an exceptionally fine
bunch of cows to bring the price
heretofore only offered for the
very best of steers. It pays to
raise blooded cattle. "I am per-

said Henry Hahn, a large stock-,
holder in the company and presi

lieve, hewever, that we would
have obtained fully a quarter
more for the stock if; the big
loads had not glutted the market
during the past few days."

Ono of tho peculiarities of hu

garious and loves tho society of
his fellow mnn and woman.
Tho writer was led into this phi
losophical train of thought, by
observing tho crowds in Tho
Busy Corner Storo during tho last
fow weeks. Go in there whon
you will, you aro suro to find tho
clerks busy, and a happy lot of
customers inspecting goods and
making purchases. No doubt,
tho unusually good bargains aro
the main attractions; still tho
human tendency to. go whero
ono's neighbor goes, is also ono
of tho causes. It may bo inter
esting to know that tho annual
clearance salo will ond Saturday
