ALL ROADS LEAD TO DURNS. ; al There seems Httlo doubt but wo Biinll witness rauronu con struction toward thla valley next season and tlmt means a largo immigration. Therefore every farmer should cultivate all the land possible. There is no dan ger of overstocking the nmrkct with anything. Thore should bo more attention given to trees by our farmers in tho valley. It may not bo profi table to set out a largo number of fruit trees in every locality at first but a few shado trees that wo know will grow adds much to the farm and these may later prove quite vnluablo in tho way of a protection to fruit. The prospects for several good substantial buildings being erect ed in our city next season are encouraging. It is right, Tho Harney country is growing and Burns should forgo ahead and keep pace with the development Local business men should en courage the patronage of thoi people of this big territory and by proper business relations con tinue to prosper. WATER AND SEWERAQB PEASIBLP. Doth Wilhtn Rcabh of Burns at Reason able Outlay, Says Promoter- The problem of water works and a sewerage system for Burns has long been a problem that has worrici property owners and public spirited citizens. It has been considered at public meet ing's and the city authorities have given the subject more or less thought, but to get a sufficient supply of water for such purposes at a reosonable cost has been tho main drawback. M. L. Lewis has given the matter much thought and ho has been working on a scheme for some time to supply this demand and now has acquired titlo to what is known as tho Tupker springs which are about three miles from Burns and an elevn tion of some three hundred feet above tho city. This additional supply of water added to his Miller springs property, he has ascertained irom civil engineers will be adequate and give our city an excellent water system. Mr. Lewis is satisfied from tho report of his engineers that not only city water at a reasonable cost is feasible, but also an ade quate sewerage system may be included in the scheme. He is now considering plans for such an undertaking and will soon be in a position to submit them to the people of Burns. The proposition is one that should be given immediate con sideration and The Times-Herald hopes it will be taken up at once. Such a necessity should not be delayed as we should have it in stalled at the earliest possible moment. If we are to take ad vantage of it and the proposition It is not often that Vale has tho ploasuro of fleeting visit from several different Railroad mag nates of different companies in one weok. But If our informa tion is correct, and wo think it is, Vale certainly had a Burpriso in storo for It this week. Thofirstman tomako hlsdobut Into Vale sociotv and who loft likoa streak of lightning on a clear day was Mr. StraUdloy, a representative of tho 0. S. L., who is ono of thoir chiofs of con struction. Ho probably went in for tho purpose of looking over the prospective routes to tho in terior and seo what Col. Woods and Hanley mean with their line. A few days later, tho Great Northern man Louis Hill was re ported to havo been seen cutting high jinks In Vale and Hko his predecessor ho shot up the Mal heur Valley on a blind hunt for something, possibly a pass to tho interior to connect with Des chutes branch, and it is not be yond conjecturo that ho was looking up Col. Woods and Bill Hanley also. There Is certainly nn-opportunity there. Then tho latest arrival to come hero was a man by tho name of Ollivcr who is also reported to bo an 0. R. & N. and 0. S. L. man. Ho also took to the tall timber and fol lowed tho paths his predecessors had taken. It looks to tho editor of tho Oriano as if there was something doing in railroad cir cles about Vale and if everything comes up to expectations Burns may hear tho toot of tho through engine in tho .courso of .a very short time. Opposition is tho life of trndo and tho two railroad magnates wanting ono slice of pio means a better prico for pio and tho bottled interior is going to rejoice at thoir increased val ues when the railroads come along. This is a matter thnt should bo encouraged and prac tically every farm throughout tho county should have telephono communication; thus relioving present isolation and bringing our people closer together. As it is the man who finds it neces sary to send his family to town for school purposes finds it very inconvenient and unsatisfactory.
